So, time to start another build! Just kidding, time to finish one of my started builds. But did that ever stopped anyone from starting another one? So... well... time to start another build. It's a D9R armed bulldozer which is an Israeli vehicle based on Caterpillar D9 civilian machine. It's nicknamed "דובי" which I believe reads "Doobi", a teddy bear. Not very fluffy, this one... Besides what's in the box, I will use Eduard's Big Ed kit and probably some other addition (metal tracks? photo-etched slat armour? Although I dread this one a bit...) As a short review, I'm again in awe of the quality of Meng's mouldings and the cleverness of the engineering. This model just comes together, and layer by layer more and more detail is added. This is clearly visible in the ripper assembly - on the photos below you'll see it build up, there are about 15 parts total - but it looks much more complex. Anyway, here are the pictures. I did a bit messy job with the photoetch so far, but this was the most difficult PE I have been ever working. Hopefully with a bit of cleanup all blemishes will disappear under the primer and paintwork. This one will be weathered a bit! The manual starts with the main body and engine enclosure (there's no engine in this kit). I made a small (well, three day long) diversion to replace moulded cooling slats with photoetched set. It's been a lot of fun :) Next I started working on the ripper assembly, it's mostly OOB but the small PE safety pins on the back of the ripper: And finally some small PE details that I prepared for the next stages. There's still a bit of buildup for the ripper assembly that is mostly related to attaching it to the bulldozer body, but I'm leaving that for later as I'm considering replacing the hydraulic shafts with metal rods, instead of painting them. Because of that, the next update will cover interior and the driver's cabin. It will probably need some painting as I go along with the build. Thanks for looking in :) Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.

One last picture... a side-by-side comparison of the provided moulded front grille and the photo-etch replacement. It's about 70 individual parts, compared to one. Although still a bit dirty at this stage, I think it looks much better - what are your thoughts? Very nice work Michu I've also been impressed with the quality of the plastic in the Meng kits. I know you haven't done very much photo etch before but you really have done a sterling job on the grill it looks fantastic!!

Personally I don't see a way. Good thing the end effect is what I wanted it to be - I'm not building this thing factory new Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.

Small update. I finished the work on ripper assembly and attached it to the main body. It might seem a bit rigid on the pictures, that's because the hydraulic cylinders are now extended to maximum. The shafts are painted with Alclad II Polished Aluminum and masked with some Tamiya tape to spare them body colour in the future. The whole assembly works very smooth and after removing the tape it will be possible to pose it as I see fit. Also, I have done some work on the cabin interior. All the surfaces that will accept photoetched control panels are sanded and the interior starts to come together. This will be a slight bump on this quickly (so far) progressing build, as it will require painting as I go. But that's for another day. Cabin floor dry-fitted on the main body together with interior furniture: Thanks for dropping by :) Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.

I decided to go full monty with this one and ordered the slat armour yesterday. Probably I haven't had enough of PE yet. In other news, metal tracks.
