Hi All, Been working on the Catharpins and Futtock shrouds this past weekend. All went fairly well according to the instructions. Once again my Hackle pliers were pressed into service. It was much quicker using them to temporarily hold the Futtock shroud in place rather than tying them with scrap cotton as the instructions suggest. I must admit that I was a little disappointed with the result – the knots ended up being a little too bold. I must get used to trusting a single half hitch and white glue knot. Having sat back and looked at it again I’ve decided to leave them as they are. I hope that once all the spars and sails are fitted they will become less obtrusive. Well, that’s it for issue 95. DONE!!! 18 hours total, which makes this my longest issue to date. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! Hi Martyn and Hans, Thanks for looking in. It's amazing that when you get to building, the hours simply fly past. Looking back I sometimes think "How is it possible that this took so many hours?" Any way, I suppose its the journey and not so much the destination. Well in my case it is. (As you can see from all my half finished models) Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Hi All, Completed the upper shrouds. Everything went pretty well. Except that I must have forgotten to shrink one of the Deadeye binding heat shrinks. As I pulled the cotton through the Deadeye, the whole assembly came apart in my hand. Fortunately I was able to bind it again. I tacked it together with white glue and once it had dried I redid the binding. I did not use the heat shrink again, and to compensate for the difference in thickness, I wrapped a second binding over the first. All’s well that ends well!!! I’m really glad that this part is complete, it felt like it was never going to end. Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! Turned out very nice indeed Garth, now you have the even more exciting job of doing the ratlines, am sure you'll enjoy that just as much as you did the shrouds.... .. All part of putting this beautiful ship together and you're doing a great job of it too.... .. Look forward to your next update. Regards Alan

Hi All, A small addition today. I found it difficult to hold the heart block thread and then bind them. (As the instructions indicated that we would) To overcome this, I secured the heart block with a half hitch, glued it and waited for it to dry. I then used my Hackle pliers rigged with a counter weight over the fighting top. A 520gr Martini Henry bullet worked a treat. This arrangement maintained the tension on the heart block and I was able to bind it quite easily. Next will be to rig the stays. I’m really looking forward to this!!! Hi All, Fitted the Lower mast stays. I had some problems lashing cotton between the stays. The cotton provided seems to be nylon and the knots kept on undoing themselves. Unfortunately my time has run out, I think I’ll use the 0.25mm cotton instead. Kind regards Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!!
