Vulcan to the Sky remain in discussions with the Robin Hood Airport management and the police on whether a final flight can be scheduled, given concerns about crowds around the airport.
Any final flight will need to be before Friday 30th October, because after then, certain components on the aircraft will have exhausted their cleared calendar life, and so the aircraft will no longer be airworthy prior to overhaul of those components.
Given all the constraints, any final flight will need to be carefully co-ordinated with the full support of our neighbours, with above all else, public safety firmly in mind.
The draw of seeing XH558 on such a historic occasion will be significant, and is confirmed by the huge crowds seen during this her Final Season. ‘The Vulcan Effect’ may now actually be counter-productive to what we all wish to achieve!
We are determined that as many people as possible have the chance to view any final flight and landing by live streaming over the internet and by recording it, both with high quality still photography and in the very latest 4K video.
We will provide an update on what will be possible just as soon as we can.
REST-ASSURED – IF XH558 DOES FLY ONE MORE TIME WE WILL LIVE STREAM THE OCCASION OVER THE INTERNET.

Now a race against time, the final flight needs to be before this Friday, because after then the aircraft will no longer be airworthy.
Fingers crossed we'll see her in the air one last time!

The latest news..
Final Flight Confirmed
A final flight has been confirmed but with substantial restrictions. To absolutely guarantee that there is no disruption to their operations from the crowds that are expected, their primary requirement is that the flight takes place at very short notice. We have agreed to this with regret because we believe it is important to have a symbolic end to flying, which is professionally recorded and made available to you as video and stills, but understanding the disappointment that it will rightly bring to all those who have generously supported XH558 and would like to see the final touch-down.
Almost all the available flying hours have been used up, the final flight will be around 15 minutes with no display, simply saying Farewell to the Skies. We are still negotiating exactly how much notice can be provided, requesting a reasonable relaxation of the original very strict requirement.

So sad to see this iconic aircraft grounded In my opinion the government of the day made a grave error retiring our bomber fleets when in fact there were still many years left in them. It was the same with the Hadley Page Bomber, an aircraft years ahead of its time. Look at the Americans they are only just thinking about retiring the B-52 bomber when they have a replacement. So sad to see the end of our great aircraft heritage, but boy what pleasure she gave people.
