Hi folks, So tomorrow I should be ready to start the second layer of planks. But it got me wondering... how do I hold these in place while the glue sets? I'm curious what methods you all use, as I'm struggling to think of a workable plan. Of course, it is almost 2am here, so maybe I'm just too tired to think clearly. lol Thanks in advance for any suggestions.  Hi Tim the planks for the second layer won't need holding in place as they are very thin and the glue holds them in place . For planking the bow I ran the planks through my fingers to get the right curve before glueing them down  Hope this helps Rgd Martyn Building ?

Hi Tim, to hold the second planking in place while the glue sets I used round headed map pins. Inserted the map pins close to the edge of the strip, being careful not to damage the edge and found the head of the pin held the strip in place..... Attached link shows it clearly.... Thank you for the replies. I'm feeling a little more confident to begin this part now. G'day Tim, Another option for you to try out. I am using blue painter's tape cut into small strips (about 1.5 inches long, then cut the strip width way onto two). The blue tape has just enough adhesion to hold the planks in place. This I found was advantageous to ensure that the new laid strips butt up flush against the previous. Take care though when peeling off the tape when finished to avoid removing any splinters from the sapele. I did not encounter this, but just in case. I found that I could use the strips twice and marked the re-used with an X so I could keep track of the new and used. I am currently planking the lower hull and provided a photo of my method. Hi Tim,
No drama, different strokes for different folks. Suggest that you do a dummy run on some scrap just to be sure that the tape you use does not mess up your end result. I'm using Scotch 3M brand.

Hello again Tim,I used this glue (see pic) to fix the second layer of planking,it grabs quicker than pva. I just put a thin layer on the plank and held in place with my fingers until it grabs then clean off any excess with a damp cloth before it dries.Good luck whichever method you use. nightwisher attached the following image(s): Man he took his time in the sun Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand He gave birth to poetry But one day will cease to be Greet the last light of the library...We were here!
