Great work Graeme and WOW it's Massive, I'm assuming those cutting mats are A3? certainly will take up a lot of space when she's finished.

Another quick update. I have cut all the small wooden drain channel pieces (pic 1), glued them into the plastic side panels and sanded them to fit (pic2 shows part way through sanding and pic 3 shows the removeable deck fitted in place after all sanding.

I then soldered up the electrics for the torpedo room and fitted false walls behind the port bow vents to hide the wiring, pics 4-6).

The removeable deck reinforcing parts were then test fitted, pic 7. A little bit of sanding was required on some of the parts to get a good fit but not a major job. These parts now need to be painted black and glued in place.

The brass panels for the bow and stern vents also need to be glued in place and then I will be up to date with the parts received.

The next set of parts are for the bow and stern plastic parts and then that is it for the main hull for a good few months allowing plenty of time for the final filling and sanding of the hull which I will probably leave till after christmas in the hope that my hints for a couple of Proxon sanders are fulfilled Love .

Thanks for the comments guys.
With the exception of filling and sanding the hull that's me finished to issue 55 so now a 3 week wait for the next delivery.

I have fitted the bow and stern brass vent overlays, pics 1 & 2.

I have also painted and fitted the removeable deck reinforcing pieces, pic 3.

Pic 4 shows the red torpedo room lights being tested (I did test the white and blue but forgot to take picsCursing ).

So that's it for now on this this build and it's back to the Akagi once I get the next delivery for that - due any day.

Hi Graeme, I really like how your torpedo compartment is coming along now, and the addition of those lights just brings the whole build to life. The whole model is looking really neat. Good work. Looking forward to seeing more.
Happy building

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've had 2 weeks decorating so no modelling. I received my next set of parts on Tuesday and worked through all of them today.
Pic 1 shows the parts for the stern section of the hull.

pic 2 shows the etch brass parts fitted to the 2 halves of the stern and to the torpedo tube muzzle door.

Pic 3 shows the muzzle door and its containment fitted to the port halve of the stern (it's sitting upside down). The muzzle door has to be free to swing and the locating pins had to be filed down bit to allow this to work.

Pic 4 shows the 2 halves of the stern glued together with the muzzle door open while pic 5 shows the door closed. It still needs a bit of filler along the seam but I will do that later during the final finishing of the hull as it is easily accessible.

The instructions tell you to fit and glue the stern tube into the stern section before fitting the stern to the hull but I found it difficult to align the tube correctly as there is only about 5mm of tube fixed in the stern section so I fitted the tube into the hull first repeatedly test fitting the stern to leave the correct length of tube protruding from the rear of the hull. I then ran thick super glue arount the tube where it passed through the hull bulkheads (Pic 6).

Pic 7 shows the stern section fixed to the hull. A little filing of the square mdf section of the frame (can be seen just below the deck in pic 6)was required to get the section to sit right against the hull. There is still a slight lip at both port and starboard where the stern section meet the rest of the hull but this will flared out when filling and sanding the hull later.

Pic 8 shows the 2 halves of the bow section with the copper tube fitted. The tube is the fairlead for the towing hook.

Pic 9 shows the port bow section with the upper vents drilled out (still need to be finished with liquid poly). The lower vents were left as moulded as the plastic is 6mm thick and I felt that with the vents being so small it would be impossible to get a good finish (other builders may prove me wrong).

Pic 10 shows the 2 bow halves with the etch brass parts fitted.

The 4 torpedo tubes will need 8mm cut off them to allow them to fit into the hull due to the resin parts of the torpedo room enhancement.

Well that's it for another month on this build.

Well done Graeme, it's coming along nicely now. Good to see the front and back end mouldings finally getting built. I have the same problem as you with that protruding piece of the framework at the end of the hull. Had to file seveeral mm's off it before the plastic stern part would sit right.
Happy building

Just a couple of final pics for this month. I taped the bow halves together and then taped the bow to the hull. Shows her final size.
