Well I plucked up the courage and made the cuts - the jig worked perfectly and both the mdf and brass parts matched once cut. I ave glued the mdf part to the hull and can now continue with the second planking.

I received the next set of parts yesterday. It consisted of 1 plastic sprue and 3 etch brass frets but only 2 of the plastic parts are used over the whole 4 issues. These are to finish the bow section torpedo tubes. The rest of the issues are concerned with attaching the bow and sanding and priming the hull.
I will post pics of the bow assembly over the weekend.

A slight error in my last post in that a some small etch brass parts a couple of plastic parts are used in the last issue but not until the hull is sanded and primed so that will probably be after christmas.

I have now finshed the bow assembly and the pics are as follows.

Pic 1 shows the 2 bow halves and their respective torpedo door pieces.

Pic 2 shows the doors glued in place and the 4 tubes now cut down bt 8mm.

pic 3 shows the tubes glued in place - the instructions tell you to do this after gluing the bow halves together but I found it easier to do at this stage.

Pic 4 shows the bow halves glued together.

Pic 5 is after the bow has been glued to the hull. I had to slightly widen the holes in the front bulkhead but then had a problem in that the starboard side joined perfectly but I had a gap along the port side. After a bit of pondering I realised the ends of the port tubes were just hitting the rear of the longitudinal frame. A little sanding of this area cured the problem.

Well that's it for now, just a lot of sanding and priming to do.

Thanks for all the great comments guys.
David, I did post a couple of pics of the lights earlier in the build but they were taken in daylight and just using a 9V PP3 battery ( the bulbs are 12V).
I will try and and get a couple in the dark this weekend.

Decided not to wait as I have not seen the lights at 12V in the dark so I dug out an old train transformer, connected it up, mounted the camera on the tripod and switched out the lights.
In the finished setup the blue light will be lit together with either the white or red lights as it is a warning light to denote "silent running".

Hi Graeme,
I'm lost for words. They look just amazing and really set off the fabulous work you've done with the torpedo compartment upgrade. What I really like are 3 different colours for the diferent working conditions the crew would have been under. Well done, In my humble opinion, you build is going to be the best out there when it's finally finished, and I'll be there following it through to completion.
Happy building and thanks for posting the light photos so quickly.
