Re planking pins go to Miskinmodels and get 10 for £9 excellent for clamping planks to each other while the glue dries also ambush the postman and get his strong elastic bands to put around the hull keeping the planks lined up. You'll likely use nails for the first skin, I usually just tap them in until the glue sets then pull them out the mag says nip them off then sand down but this isn't necessary and it's hard work sanding brass! You will receive a plank bender in issue 5 and these are all you need to shape the planks don't buy electric benders: unnecessary. I've built Titanic Victory (Del Prado) and am nearly finished Bismarck (3 years). I crewed victory with scale figures from OnTracks morris dancers! 15 sailors Nelson and a marine officer plus 5 marines. When doing the "ratlines" hold a white card against the mast so you can see the ropes clearly. Sundance

Thanks for the tip about the electric benders Sundance. You may well have saved me some expense. I did wonder as previous boat was done without any benders all be it not very well.  I shall suck the benders provided and see.

Hi There, Planking Pins !!! most good model supply shop will sell these, google search for best price, personally I think the model shop at the tip of the land is a bit expensive, eh, but thats just my opinion! I use dressmaking pins (the ones with the coloured tops). The hole left behind is minimal and sanding usually "vanishes" the hole. Dave H

Hi all, I simply use push pins. I don't push the pins through the plank but adjeacent to it using the flat part on the head of the pin to hold the plank while it dries. In this way I don't end up with any holes in my planks and things seem to end up kind of neat and tidy. Hope that helps Alex
