May have made a bit of a mistake here! Issue 40 step 15 says that you should use the birchwood strips (1.5x5x300)that came with issue 39 and paint them red for the gun ports. I have used by mistake the basswood strips (1x3x300) that came with issue 38. These are much thinner but seem to be suitable for gun ports. I have painted them red but haven't cut them up yet.
Can anyone tell me what the basswood strips provided in issue 38 are used for? - I can't find anything about them used in Mr T's build diary.

Thanks for the quick response Martyn. That's odd? Why does it say use the strips supplied in issue 39 for gun ports? It clearly states this in issue 40 step 15. I am really confused now??

So I should not use the strips provided in issue 39 then (and use the strips from issue 38). This will be my first departure from the assembly guide since I started this build. Interested to know what other SOS builders did at this point? What are the strips in issue 39 used for?

Hi Simon, I too was confused at this stage, as you say the instructions say use the 5mm but the 3mm look more suitable. I followed the instructions and used the 5mm and to this day still have the 3mm ones untouched (no idea what they are for).P.S the 5mm is incredibly hard to cut i would recommend investing in a wood chopper. Have just finished lining all my gun ports and I now see from your post that I have used the wrong size base wood, should have been 3mm not the 5 mm that I used. Do the ports on deck 3 have to be flush with inside hull, I would suspect so as deck 3 would not line up flush the inside hull.

Hi Greg, the inside of the ports on the main deck do have to be flush with inside of the hull but you do this when you get to the stage of lining the inner bulwarks as can be seen here in issue 47. http://forum.model-space...aspx?g=posts&t=7313
Hope this helps. Regards Alan
