The build in the magazine is showing the engine being removed at the end of pack 18, stage 64, but looking at the official build and some people's builds the engine is remaining in situ. Just wandering why the engine is removed at this stage? Senna mclaren mp4/4 build complete mp4/4 build http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=12029

Hi Steve.
It is easier to fit the wiring of the electrical system to the monocoque without the extra weight of the engine adding to one's problems. (And, believe me, the wiring is tricky enough -especially around and under the seat- without any extra difficulties!)
When it is permanently re-attached to the monocoque in Pack 20 it is done with the gearbox already attached to it by a large screw (F), and then another screw F fixes the engine to the monocoque.
I think I've got that right... It puzzled me when I saw it was supposed to be removed, but it does make sense in the end.
Hope that helps.

Hi Steve The reason I left my engine attached along with the floor was to protect the exhaust and turbo components as these are delicate parts and prone to get knocked off easily. The only tetchy part to fit is the throttle linkage with the engine in situ but it is possible. As CP says removal may make it easyer to final fit a few parts but if I can do it without removal that's the way I will do it. Is it possible not to reinstall the engine and have it on display separately without causing problems to the external appearance of the rear of the car?

I'd think not considering the rear suspension is hung from the gearbox which is attached to the engine.
