ADMIN, please confirm this with us... thanks Hi and welcome to the forum. Yours is a question that we have all asked. As far as we were all told this build will run its course, but then as you know with anything like this, the only 100% guarantee it will not end is when you have finished the build!!! I hope that goes some way toward helping you decide. It is a good build and a great forum. Jack

Hi SK15 Saw your post on www.modelshipworld.com. I also live in Uitenhage and have subscribed to the DeAgostini HMS Victory partworks. I have done so as I saw this kit at some shop in P.E. for almost R10,000 a few years ago! Lusted after it since, and when I saw the CNA ad, jumped at the chance. Cheaper than a credit card and gives one time to learn craft properly while waiting for next issue. I purchased two A.L models, Santa Maria and Sagres, approx. 3 years ago and have collected most tools over that time, was terrified to start, not having built wooden ship models before, just plastic car model kits. BUT I think I'm ready now. The help and advice on these forums is excellent and can you believe free of charge!! Some guys have an issue with waiting for their issues, which is understandable. As you know, we are used to waiting for stuff here.... If you wish we can put our heads together. P.M. me and let's chat. Cheers Jacques

Hi, I bought the first 2 issues, then subscribed, coz I work out the country, and wouldn't like to miss any issues. I also hate waiting, but I'm away for 2 to 3 months at a time, so when I get home I will have enough to keep me going untill I go ack to work. (I haven't made any of it yet, but have the HMS Endeavour to keep me busy.) I also wanted the free tools, which apparently aren't fantastic, but will suppliment my set of home made ones. I also saw on another forum, (can't remember which one, or what the tool is called) a guy used a tool the doctors use to pull stuff out of kids' ears with to do rigging. Excellent tool, like long tweezers, but only the very end of the jaws open and shut. As soon as I find one, I will let you know what it's called. DeAg have put out other models before, which have run their course, I have also seen that on forums, so I recon it will be pretty safe. The price is slightly higher than full kits I have seen around, but the instructions are much better in this model than in My Endeavour kit. Also, this model comes with some nice extras, like the men, and of course, this forum, where everyone is only too happy to share their advice and experiences, as well as the build log going on. The UK guys are about 22 parts ahead of us, so we have the joy of learning about their problems and fixes long before we get to them, which will definitely help us! (note rib 15 has issues...) Cheers mates, enjoy the build, I will start mine in December when I have 10 parts, mwaaahaaaah! Part time modeller, full time biker

ADMIN, please confirm this with us... thanks I have subscribed to a number of series previously offered by Jacklin Enterprises (our local Jo'burg supplier) and I have found deliveries on time and, in the end, complete. I would not trust buying weekly issues from CNA, as find that, in some cases, they only stock the first few issues (probably just to attract the customer) and then you do not see further issues again. WooHoo! I finally got my official "welcome to the build" letter from Jacklin Enterprises. I'm glad I subscribed after issue 2, cos my local CNA shops don't seem to have part 3. Maybe demand wasn't high enough to continue putting it on the shelves? I spose it's cos most South Africans are too busy surfing and such like to bu building model ships... I personally try balance my time between building ships, working on and riding my bikes and trying to squeeze some time in for the family... Part time modeller, full time biker

Hi all RSA builders
Has anyone received any issues yet. I subscribed on 1 Sept and have only received emails and a letter but nothing to do that can keep me out of trouble.

I have also only recieved my confirmation letter, but it's no big deal, I'm in Abu Dhabi for the next 2 months. Hopefully by the time I arrive home, I will have 2 mailings waiting for me, and so will have a decent amount to do on the ship. the parts suppliedc in the first 2 issues wouldn't take more than a couple of hours, so I have left everything untouched. (very hard to do...) Part time modeller, full time biker

The first 2 issue arrived today. How the first decisions paint or natural wood finish, cut away view or not. Although these are not urgent, decisions will soon need to be made. As a first time builder of a wooden model are there any suggestions from the more experienced builder out there.

On a more serious note, This is my first build, so I got an in between build, then another in between build!! They are addictive, and with all the great people here and their seemingly bottomless pit of knowledge, you will find it very easy to get into, will want to do more and will make some EXCELLENT friends!! Best advice I can give you is, MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE, READ EVERYTHING 3 TIMES AND TEST FIT ALL PARTS FIRST and if you really get stuck ASK!!!!! Enjoy your build, and welcome to the maddest ship yard you will ever find!!! Jack Sparrow (Captain)
