I am just about at the end of building the MP4/4 and I have to say my overall impression of the model is one of disappointment.
It's just my opinion obviously but I much prefer the McLaren MP4/23 .
There were some faults with the parts not fitting very well on the MP4/23 but I think this build has caused other problems by over complicating the model by cramming too much in.
Diagostini obviously want to make as much money as possible from the subscriptions hence the 20 issues but considering most people will be displaying this model with the bodywork fitted in my opinion, and it's only my opinion, there is too much detail.
I do think better solutions could have been found for various parts of the build including the exhaust and the engine and gearbox parts and also that horrible sticky tape.
Too many parts have to be glued and over the length of the build the glue bond weakens which causes problems when you start the final assembly and the amount of cabling etc to fit makes the whole final assembly stressful to say the least.
Obviously my model building skills are not on a par with some of the build diaries on the forum and the fact that my eyes are not as good as they used to be,yes I am getting oldBigGrin ,has made this a harder build for me than some of you on here but I still feel disappointed in the model.
I like things to be perfect and luckily the few faults I have on the model will all be hidden under the bodywork but it's still frustrating knowing that the model is not as good as I want it to be and while some of that is my fault I do feel that the model has been made more difficult to build than it should have been.
I will post some photos once it's completely finished , good luck to you all with the final assembly.

But I would of thought the idea of having the extra detail is that you now have the option of displaying it with or without the body. Admittedly I will be displaying with it but its also nice on a personal basis to know what's underneath and that it was all you own hard work. Yes the model has had some challenges which at times have been frustrating but that's surely what makes an interesting build. Where is the fun without the odd challenge! I for 1 have enjoyed the build and overcoming the obstacles, which I no doubt there will be more off when I receive the final pack next month, and would do another similar build should they bring out another f1 car.

I disagree, when I started doing 1/20 scale F1 cars I always wanted to be able to add extra details like plumbing and wiring like I'd seen online. However, I'm simply not at that level, and this car allows me to detail up the car without having vast experience. I will be showing this model without its body.
And in contrast with the MP4-23 cars from this era seem more... Messy? Under the cowling. All the interesting detail on the MP4-23 is in the aero, it still remains one of the most complex aero cars ever built. And for me, all the interesting detail on the MP4-4 is in the engine. I would've been disappointed if there was minimal detail under the body.

BigGrin I disagree also when you think about it the kit was first published as a part work in Japan and Japanese builders demand high detail in there kits or it just would not sell there. It was a very successful model in Japan so that speaks for itself. As for hiding the detail under the body you can have the body off to show this of fix it in place knowing the detail is there. For instance I have built many ship models and reproduced the gun carriages and tackle for the lower decks knowing that once the next deck is on it cant be seen, the only way to view this detail is through the open gun ports using a small dentist's type mirror but I know its there and it looks right. All in all its a great kit with detail that could only be dreamed about a few years ago unless you were an expert scratch builder.Cool
Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I must disagree as well!! The detail is there for a reason, it is an accurate scale model, and the option is there to display without the bodywork if you so wish. Building a model with this level of detail is not just an enjoyable and satisfying way to pass the time, it also gives an insight into the intricacies of the car that we wouldn't otherwise get. It may be challenging at times, but that surely adds to the satisfaction when it's completed.

I for one would be very disappointed if the kit lacked detail and went together without any degree of difficulty. Where's the fun in that? Confused

I disagree and agree the detail is second to none but so much glueing I have all packs and still on pack 16 at moment which fine it frustrating and gone off it at mo but building Senna car wow do not remember watching him race. If it was anybody else's car don't think I would have bothered it's mainly my skills or lack off.

As I said its just my opinion but having progressed even further with the final assembly I will stick by my opinion.
I have encountered a few problems with the fitting of the bodywork especially around the nose area where it does not fit completely together without a little bit of force and removal of plastic along the edges.
Maybe its me that's at fault but it does not seem to fit as well as I thought it would and also the panels that you fit to the bodywork in stage 20 seem to raise the bodywork up slightly.
A bit of careful work with the knife hopefully will rectify these matters and as I said its most probably me at fault.... good luck to you all with the final stage.

Having built the Mp4/4, Countach LP500S, Pocher Aventador and currently building the Eaglemoss 300SL and Hatchette LaFerrari I will conclude the DeAgositini MP 4/4 is best quality kit in the 8th scale subscription series of them all, nothing is 'perfect' -all of these kits require some level of modeling skills. In Japan the MP4/4 subscription offered a special display case with an aluminum framework to display the bodywork above the exposed chassis, so both could be enjoyed.

I am campaigning for DeAgostini to bring us the Lotus 49 that Jim Clark drove to victory in it's first race, having both the Lotus 49 AND the MP 4/4 on display would be a fantastic display.
