Hi All
When I was building and investigating the Yamato I came across this ship which is now a floating museum in Japan and open to visitors. Built by Vickers in 1902 with four 30.5 cm guns, fourteen 14.5 cm guns, sixteen 7.6 cm guns, twelve 4.7 guns, four underwater torpedo tubes and protected with Krupp armoured plate she was a formidable ship for her time. Admiral Togo made her his flag ship for the battle of the Japan sea where the Japanese navy sunk 21 out of 38 ships sent by Russia for a loss of 4 torpedo boats.
Eleven nicely detailed grey plastic sprue's with no flash are provided along with some black and white instructions, some chain for the anchors, flags and decals for the name plate and ship. The instructions are in six languages and set out in Hasegawa's usual way, whats also nice is two pages of rigging plans are included for the ship and she should build into a nice ship.
I decided on the Pontos set because it includes the torpedo nets that were hung from the booms along the side of the ship and the solid brass masts along with all the gun barrels. A wooden deck along with three large etch sheets some chain and a small amount of resin. The instructions are full colour large and very clear and are I think the best I have seen with any etch set. Whilst not esential to make a good model the extra,s this kit provides will make some great enhancements to what is already a nicely detailed kit.
Regards
Andy
