BigGrin Hi All

This is my supprise xmass prezzy from my wife as follows:- text

You will receive a large box today, you may open it as its too big to hide until xmass day.

Me:- what large box.

Wife:- Its arriving between 5pm and 6pm.

Me at 5.15PM Wow big box and on openingDrool Love Drool Love Drool Laugh Blink

Yup the Trumpeter 1/16 king tiger, this kit as it is now is an amalgum of two previous kits by Trumpeter, before this kit it was buy the kit with either the Porsche or henschel turrets and they had an optional clear plastic hull and turret parts so the full interior as supplied could be seen and I think a metal barrel. Now the clear parts have gone along with the metal barrel but you still get a kit of shocking size. The hull is about 600 mm without the barrel and has a full interior [ so no resin upgrades neededLOL Laugh ].
Hmm well you may need a few because the ammo racks are wrong and if the kit supplied ones are used you cant turn the turret after market parts cure this. They give you a full compliment and mix of shells, around 70 but only supply 48 percusion caps so you need to buy more after market etch here too.

Those are the Major gripes if you read up on the kit but are easily rectified.

The kit box is huge and has a carrying handle, on opening all the major components are packed into there own boxes, such as the two turrets, hull base and upper, tracks and metal parts, the tracks are pre moulded plastic but have metal pins to join them, a box of sprues and centraly located the wheel and some other sprues all in all 1850 parts. There are some ejector marks on the parts but if you ignore those the parts are well made with good detail and although may need some attention but as for flash my kit has none.
A very thick book of instructions are provided with Trumpeters usual mini assembly proccess that then builds into the finished model. Some KT'S had zimmermit but not all so Trumpeter provide Zimmermitt tools so it can be applied. Some etch is supplied along with wire for hawsers and two sheets of colour paint markings.

This is a monster kit that has high detail but some flaws but all are fixable and known, one that could be a challenge worth taking on for that in your face show piece.

I have already ordered the interior decals and corrected shell racks along with the radio set and uprgaded giro box. I have also got the build book on order and am searching for more etch upgrades like the percusion caps.

Still dribbling like a kid in a candy store on this one thats going into my stash and would recommend it to anyone who wants a seriously large eye catcher.

regards

AndyCool

What a great surprise from the wife, I purchased this same kit a few weeks ago and was amazed at the size as well as by how much plastic was in the box. Mine was a Christmas present from me to me LOL

It would have been great, well maybe not for you, if she had wrapped it up and you could only take a picture of the tree standing on top of it LOL

Glad you posted the pictures. With the separation at the moment the house and garage are filling up with furniture and white goods ready for her house purchase to complete making space very tight so it would have been a nightmare getting these parts out to photograph.

The parts count in this kit is staggering, I also picked up a cheap copy of the Super King book by David Parker which I stumbled across by accident in a local book shop BigGrin

I have so many different projects to choose from now I'm struggling to decide which one will be first when I get all the space back LOL still trying to decide which will be my build of the year next year too.

Its looking like 2016 is going to be another great year for builds on Model Space Cool
