Morning Pall mall,

I feel for you mate. In answer to your question, I think it would be an idea to strip all the planking off that side and start again. If I am wrong I'm sure someone will correct me but I feel that this is the only option open to you.

Regards, Paul

hi pall mall i nearly did that to but i noticed it on the marking out stage, sorry to hear this,i personaly would take off the planks because you would need to follow the pattern of the gun ports which would mean that all the ports on that side will be wrong..if you have done alot of planking you will only need to take off the bottom 4 layers..hope this helps paul
cheers benny

Stripping the planking would be far easier and quicker than trying to put the error right, where its likely the error would still be visible.

I agree, remove the planking and begin again, as the gun ports situated in the wrong position will really look odd...not only that, it would throw the whole balance of your build out...

I agree with tomick here, you can purchase more wood from www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk
you will need 4 x 5mm.x2mm.x1000mm basswood(lime)or re-order the last issues that cover that part,if it helps to know I did the same thing.

Good luck to you mate. All on the forum are good for advice. One thing to bear in mind...You are paying in access of £700 for a quality model, so don't be ashamed to ask. I wish you well.

hi all ,i know the feeling when making a mistake like that. i myself did not sand the hull properly and paid the price for not fairing properly i finally stripped all of the six layers of planking and started over again.it is now back on target, and i am now very pleased with it now.i learned a valuable lesson Blushing

I was interested to see that a few members did or came close to cutting ports on wrong side of frames I marked them out centered all 16 of the second side ...something stopped me from cutting and check markings I was seconds away from cutting first port in incorrect place...strange .I did port side first and when marking starboard side it was facing me and making reference to the image on page 13 issue 23 it shows ports to the left of frames think my brain said cut ports left of frames and I so nearly did ....

Hi Shipmates! BigGrin

Sorry to here about the problem you had making out the wrong side of the ribs and then cutting out the gun ports before realising your mistake. This can happen to the best of us.

Little tip:-

Pick a rib and put a length of masking tape over the planks on the side of the rib the gun port will be then wrapping the tape over the top plank. Now repeat on the other side so that when you look down from the top, the tape is next to the rib on the same side. Then mark your first gun port on the next rib so it matches the tape as the tape shows the side of the rib the gun port should be on, turn the ship around and repeat on that side. You will have a gun port mark on each side remove the tape and mark the rest of the gun ports on both sides.

Brilliant little tip just like hundreds that appear here.

I wish there were a way of putting all the posts like this in one place so I don't forget them as they get lost on the threads.

Doh, I should have known Colin had done it already.

Great stuff.

Not sure how to get individual posts on though like the one above. Just the link to the post maybe.
