So, while patiently waiting for my Senna 4/4 packs I thought I should keep busy with something a little different. It is a Mclaren but the car where it all started, a CanAm M8.RM1 attached the following image(s):

The kit is a little disappointing in terms of detail and moulding quality. I thought this would be a pretty straight forward build but I'm already planning wiring and plumbing There are no plug leads or fuel lines ( not even a fuel pump !! ). Looks like this was originally a battery powered model. Malc. RM1 attached the following image(s):

Something different though and looks a nice kit Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hello Malc,
I do vaguely recall seeing this kit in a model shop in the mid '70s and I'm sure it was one of those daft motorised models back then? Probably the same mouldings from that old kit minus the electrical bits, but no reason why it can't be made into a nicely detailed model and with your recent history of scratchbuilding some nice details on your models, I'm sure you'll make a fine job of it - even if you were hoping to not have to do it yourself?!
'Accurate Miniatures' did a 1:24 scale Mclaren M8 in several variants (A, B & I think a C as well?) which was very highly detailed as a standard kit and which builds into a super looking model with patience as it's not the easiest to build, though it's getting harder to find one nowadays that isn't silly money?
'Zero Paints' sell the 99.9% accurate 'Can-Am Mclaren Orange' for this model, you can find it here:

Look forward to seeing how you get on with this build Malc, I'm sure it'll be very cool when completed my friend?!

Hi Kev, Thanks for the info on the paint. Zero paints are not distributed (as far as I can tell) in SA and they won't ship dangerous goods in small quantities. I'll keep trying to find it but may have to stick with the Tamiya orange. Malc.

I've made a bit of a start on the V8 block.RM1 attached the following image(s):

The body panels are showing quite a lot of "sink marks" so I'm putting some efforts into filling and smoothing out.RM1 attached the following image(s):

The engine is quite lacking in detail so I'm going to add plug leads and fuel lines ( and a fuel pump ! ). The distinctive inlet trumpets have these spikes which I will drill 0,8 and add a connector of sorts. Something like this.RM1 attached the following image(s):

The engine's taking shape. Used alclad2 on the inlet trumpets and trying some different wire sizes for the plug leads and fuel lines.RM1 attached the following image(s):

From the few pictures of the M8A that I can find it seems like the fuel pump could be a mechanism at the rear end of the head between the cylinders. I found a left over cylindrical part from another kit and added some connectors for the fuel lines.Maybe not to accurate but should do the job. RM1 attached the following image(s):

Quick update. Not had much time for the models in the last couple of weeks. I used a Alclad2 polished Aluminium for the tub. I deleted the previous post as i wanted to change the pictures but couldn't find a way to do it? RM1 attached the following image(s):
