Well I decided I couldn't stay in the same room as Pack 1 any longer without building something so I have started on the launch. The jig went together easily so now I will have to get some sanding strips and other basic tools down from the loft where they were supposed to be staying until our builders have finished! I'm sure no one will notice a few hand tools. I will take some pics as I progress. Garfield

Well the first plank is on and waiting to be trimmed. I used medium CA rather than the PVA type supplied. I have now ordered some better adhesive from CMB. I have attached a couple of pictures, the jig was photographed before any rubbing down. Well it's a start! Garfield

Disaster! After doing the plank photo I didn't put the model back on a shelf out of harms way and so managed to break off three ribs. I didn't even notice until I cleared away my desk and noticed three curved pieces of wood next to the model, which I had left on my desk. I must have placed or dropped something on top of the model without noticing. DOH! I will photograph it today before and after surgery. If I don't try to clean up the breaks they should go back together okay. Stay tuned for the next instalment.... Garfield

Well having had a closer look where the damage occurred I now have six pieces of wood to put back together. The alternative will be to get another copy of issue 6 I suppose? I need to know which is the "tallest" rib/bulkhead when viewed on the jig. I think it is No 9 but if anyone knows otherwise I would be interested. The part numbers are on the bits that didn't break off! Below is a photo of the damaged jig and the various bits. Garfield59 attached the following image(s):

All those years of doing jigsaw puzzles were not wasted! I have found which bits go where and thanks to some CA glue and a pair of tweezers the jig is back as it should be. A couple of small joins can be seen but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong that will spoil the lines when it's planked. Relieved - you bet! Garfield59 attached the following image(s):

Too much else going on at the moment to make any headway with the launch but I have been reading plenty about the ship.
I have also discovered that as well as several books, Santa is bringing be on a bag of copper tiles!
Will try to make some progress with the launch between writing cards and lots of other jobs that need doing.

Thanks Ian, and indeed everyone else for the words of encouragement.
Sadly, Christmas and the volume of work that needs to be done here as our builders head for completion is making it impossible to get on with even the launch. However, Santa was kind and so I have a pile of Victory-related reference books to read and a bag of copper tiles!
Most days I also read through other contributors build diaries so that I can learn from their experience. This forum is a wonderful place to learn and the tone is generally friendly and helpful.
I will start posting photos again once I restart work on the launch. Also Pack 2 should be arriving soon!
Best wishes to you all for a peaceful, prosperous and healthy New Year.

Well Pack 2 has arrived, Santa brought me lots of reference books and our house extension should be complete in a couple of weeks. Let Victory building commence! I've been too distracted to continue with building athe launch so I'm looking forward to having space to build and not have to put everything away at the end of each session. Looking forward to posting some build photos soon!
