Hi Everyone Reporting slow progress for January 2016 - but what I have managed is shown below... Working through issues 77 to 81 with some exclusions - to be done later... * Made the figurehead platform and started to paint "The Skipper"... Got the basic colours done ok but having trouble with the fine detail, especially the white outlining of the jacket... I am using a size 1 and 0 brush with pointed shape but it tends to spread the bristles... Can anyone suggest an alternative method of application? * Started work on the main mast and yards... Made up a "Clayton's" lathe but the longer dowels tended to oscillate at the loose end so I had to be real careful... The yards of course I could only do one end in this way, The other end was done by hand and took forever... All the parts still need a bit of fine tuning and staining and will not have assembly completed until I see how the masts/yards go together... * Fitted the stern brackets under the transom and some more decoration to the stern... The stern brackets' profile did not match the stern I have made. so needed some 'adjustment' as well as some filler paste... Will tidy that up later... Happy building to all JohnP John Passmore attached the following image(s):

Hi John very nicely done A little tip for tapering the yards is to wrap some masking tape around one end so the drill chuck doesn't mark the wood and then sand down the other end when happy with the taper take the tape off the other end and wrap the tape around the end you have just done and repeat hope this helps rgd Martyn Building ? Looking great John, really nice work being shown.... .. As for paint brushes, they come in even smaller sizes than size 0 so you may consider adding these to your tool list.... Hope this link helps. http://www.scalemodelgui...ll-about-paint-brushes/

Looking good with all that bling, I had trouble with those brackets too, in fact still not happy with one of them .As for painting the figures I like to use sable brushes, they tend to hold their point longer as long as you look after them (clean them properly, don't dip them in the paint pot, thin the paint ect). Hi Nightwisher Thanks for the nice words and the information - much appreciated... . I may not get much done this month as it's now summer here and I need to get some home maintenance done, which has been neglected somewhat since starting this little caper... _ ( and the domestic CEO has spoken )... Hi Everyone Progress occurring April-May herewith... Working through issues 85 to 96 excluding canons * Fitted cornice frames Port side. * Added Stern decorations. * Fitted Quarterdeck grill and handrail. * Installed Deck fixtures and fittings - Bittes, belay pins, buckets, eyebolts etc. * Fitted side lanterns at Stern gallery. A spot of bother here as there was insufficient space between the cornice strips - so had to cut a little recess in the top one to allow the lantern to sit flat. * Fitted Hull side and Stern decorations from all issues up to issue 109. ( So they all got to be prepared and painted at the same time ). The same problem occurred when it came to fitting the larger decorations alongside the lanterns. I used the same solution by cutting a little rebate in the top cornice, however I would have needed to cut out the top cornice completely to accommodate piece number PD36 from issue 102. So I decided to dispense with that part altogether and it doesn't look too bad. Anyway, there's enough bling on this thing to sink a battleship already!!!!! About this time my trusty old camera gave up the ghost and became completely U/S. So I do not have pictures of later operations for this period in the project. * Fitted Chain wales, chains and dead eyes both sides of the hull. There are only 60 deadeyes in the kit and I managed to squash a few initially when fitting the wire around them before I got the hang of it. I've had to source some extra deadeyes to make up the shortfall. That's it for now, I may get another post done in June, then I'm off to UK in July for a couple of months so I don't expect there to be any more progress until at least October. Happy building to All Regards JohnP John Passmore attached the following image(s):
