I have just finished pinning the lower deck to the ribs and just getting ready to glue when I noticed that the deck is not actually attached to the keel anywhere at this stage.
In the instructions it mentions putting some weights on the deck after glueing to ensure the deck takes the slight curve in the keel.
Would in not be a good idea to put a few pins through the deck straight into the keel itself?

Sorry misread your question, the mention of weights threw me which relates to the middle deck - There is no requirementto pin the lower deck at the stern line.

Issue 17/page 11 panels 4-7 show 3 rows of pins for each deck piece, all in the ribs and none in the keel, or have I missed something?

z8000783 I think you have missed something, the lower deck IS pinned.the next deck up have the weights placed on them.I suggest you check the otherbuilds particually "son of bulwark" build,this clearly shows the pinning of the lower deck. Yes you are correct about the weights, my mistake, it says you turn the frame upside down and use it's own weight.
But I still can't see which pins go into the false keel as opposed to the six in each rib.

John There are no pins in the keel on the lower deck, they all go in the ribs, 3 each side of each half deck, 6 in total across the full width. You then turn the hull upside down to apply the watered down PVA, using the weight of the hull to hold it square. When that is dry turn it back over and the second deck is glue only with weights to hold it down.

Thanks Jack, that is exactly what I thought it said, sorry for the confusion with the weights.
So my question was, wouldn't it better to put a few pins through the deck into the false keel to make sure it forms the slight convex shape better after gluing.
Or to put it another way, would it cause a problem later if I did do this even if the instructions don't mention it.

John I didnt put any in, and with the way its done the deck flowed ok. But its up to you really.

One quick tip....i used cups (mugs)then filled them with water that way you can see when there is enough weight on them also it spreads the weight out ...hope this helps .. .John...

I have have decided to leave them out initially. Because the decks are only pinned to the ribs it means they will lift away from the false keel slightly allowing me to get the glue between the keel and the decks. I can then push the decks and ribs back in place and then pin them down to the keel before finishing all the glueing.
