BigGrin Hi All

This will be my '2016 Build Of The Year' entry a 1/24 Schnellboot with full fittings and R/C. You may remember that I got hold of the hull about a year ago but it had the old style S 80 type bridge plans included with the hull. I wanted the S 100 armoured type bridge called the kalotte or sometimes called the skullcap but after nearly 12 months of searching I now have a full set of 1/24 plans. I also have the Italeri 1/35 schnellboot as a reference item aswell.

The internals will be 3 electric motors with there own speed controlers driving two R/H and 1 L/H screws, the two small rudders are for the speed enhancer system, the main rudder being directly behind the central screw. The radio will be a Futaba 2.4 GHz 7 channel Fast.

Battlecrafts also do a full fittings kit for a 1/24 model I have the two 20 mm front and midship guns with the 37 mm Bofors for the stern. The kit only supply's 2 torpedo's but I ordered an extra two to make up the full compliment, the rest of the fittings kit is hatches railings torpedo doors and torpedo tubes ect. Its a very good fittings kit. More soon. I also have a new camera and hopefully better pictures from now on.

Regards

Hey Andy,
So I was curious, is this comparable to the US PT boats the US used in the Pacific. Or is it a larger German version of a sub hunter? I've never seen anything like this before. Very cool. Can't wait to see it in action. Good luck.

Ron

BigGrin Hi Ron

There a comparable craft I think the PT boats were based on a British designed boat that Higgins and Elco based there boats on, although there length was around 80 feet compared to the E-Boats 114 feet.

The major difference between the British and USA boats was the build I think as the E-Boats had an aluminium frame that had wood placed upon it. The British and USA boats were of a total wood construction. I have added a couple of links to Wiki for a comparison and lastly a link to the only E-Boat left and currently under restoration.

BigGrin Hi Phil

The hull and fittings kits are from separate suplyers and you are correct about The Wheatcroft Collection restoring the last surviving E-Boat I did add a link above but have reposted it here.
