Q: But...but...but... Grey, do you not have way too many fires going at the same time already?

A: Indeed I do.

Q: So then why woul-

A: IT'S THE TOMCAT, STUPID! THE TOMCAT! SHE'S MY FIRST AND ONLY LOVE! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?

Q: You need help.

A: Indeed I do.

So, yeah, this is happening. Hachette brings the F14 to Germany a year earlier than I thought they would. And me with no impulse control at all will of course be building it.

Issue 1

We get the canopy (in two parts), rear ejection seat (in two parts), rear instrument panel and cover, LED lighting for the instrument panel and 2 canopy .... locks, I guess? They're not naming parts, so I'm making up names here.

The details are too small for my camera and they're so tiny even with a magnifying glass they're hard to read.

The actual building part extends only to putting together the seat and gluing the locks(?) to the canopy, so no pictures as there's really nothing to see.

What's nice is they provide tips for supering the build and teach you right in issue 1 about washing and dry brushing, so I'll be weathering the seat cushions sometime in the next few days.

And now we wait a month for issue 2 to come out. Yes, a month.

Fun fact: Thirty years ago when I was a little boy playing way too many combat flight simulators, I decided I needed a callsign. I chose "Greyhawk". What with combat planes being grey and them being dangerous birds like a hawk. Yup. That's that story.

Good luck Greyhawk.I am a big tomcat fan too.I even suffered through watching tom Cruise just to see the Tomcats in action.Since this is 1/32 you could probably get some photoetched cockpit sets to superdetail the cockpit.

Hi Greyhawk, I vaguely remember building one of these In 1/72 scale when I was a kid, brings back happy memories. Will be following with interest,by the way if the first part of your post was a conversation Between you and the missus you are a very brave man.Laugh
Man he took his time in the sun
Had a dream to understand
A single grain of sand
He gave birth to poetry
But one day will cease to be
Greet the last light of the library...We were here!

I don't think I need to. From what I've seen it's superdetailed already.

The main draw of this one however is that everything is movable by remote control. Well, apart from actual flight that is.

This was a test run here in UK, i wish they did a full one with.
Maybe it will start again in the coming months?

I was very very surprised they brought it out here already. I expected 2017 and I almost didn't believe it wasn't a test when the magazines hit the stands today. But they're doing the full media circus with national TV ads and everything, so I guess it's real.

Yes it is.

The only thing I'm not so keen on is its awful weathering which looks very unrealistic.

From what I've seen from the Japanese build videos I think it's only prepainted, not preweathered, so this should be salvageable. I'll know more at the end of the month when I get the first hull part.

Issue 2

So, the partwork proper finally starts after the month Hachette gave everyone between issue 1 and 2.

We receive the first metal frame part and two cockpit "locks". This part is heavy. I don't have the option to weigh things here anymore, but believe me, it's HEAVY. And huge at 29 cms long.

We attach the "locks" with CA and then drop in the cockpit front pane. Not much to do yet, but we're just starting.

Sounds like this thing is going to weigh in when complete so lets hope they have designed an undercarriage to hold all that weight (sure they will have done).

An interesting build to watch - look forward to your next one.

I think I've seen some kind of plexiglass stand or something in the advertisement video, which will hopefully be part of the build.

Updates should happen every Wednesday now unless there's problems with the build or my newspaper agent.

No.1 Space, too many builds, house too small, need kids to move out! (or trade them for models?!)LOL BigGrin

No.2 Also want the Honda 750, Mustang and this, would end up in a divorce court!!LOL BigGrin

Yeah, about that.... I trekked through 4 newsagents and inspected about 7 issues until I found one that had no really obvious blemishes. All the rest had black blotches and smears of paint all over... I do hope they get that under control.
