Long time no see. Finally got all the decks dewarped to my liking and it's high time to carry on.

Remember those nails I got to replace the missing nails from issue 16 or 17? The nails specifically made for building ship models? Produced by Germanys biggest producer of tools and stuff for building ship models? Bought in a specialiced modeling store?

They ain't magnetic. Say whaaaaaat?

Who would do such a thing?

Damn those nails!! I actually know all too well how frustrating that is as my nails supplied in the Trinidad kit wouldn't stick to the magnet in the Pin pusher that was also supplied in the kit.

It didn't have anything to do with the fact that the pin pusher came in to contact with a brick wall while taking a flying lesson during a moment of frustration, with the magnet disappearing into oblivion

Ribs and deck looking good.

Generally I didn't have to many problems with the nails for the decking but I made sure that I got the technique right as I went since I had never done this before. So any bent ones were replaced until I got the hang of it. Remember, you will need to use the pins again on the planking where errors will not be forgiven so make sure your happy with this. Personally, I decided not to use them for the planks which meant some innovations had to come into play to hold the planks in whilst the glue was setting.

No, I think the nails I bought are just a bunch of limp noodles. Luckily for the planks I will have the actually supplied nails.

Yeah, absolutely should have done that. Turns out like maybe 10% of the FlimsyNailsTM managed to actually pentrate the ribs, the rest veered off into all sorts of directions underneath the deck.

Ripped them all out again, grabbed the nails from issue 20. Muuuuuuuch better. Like not even the same kind of planet.

I never had any problems myself with nail setters until I bought those BadNails. As I said, I sunk over 300 nails into that steam engines boiler and had maybe 3 that were problematic (flat ends on the nails). The important thing is to keep up even pressure and to hold the thing steady.

Hammering will work in a lot of places. Here on the deck it's difficult because half of the time ribs are in the way of the hammers arc. The nail setter worked great once I used the correct nails.

Yes, incredibly, impossibly I'm finally a step further with the victory, the first deck is in and the fake gun emplacement is prepared.

The whole falsely cut deck, warped deck, missing nails, wrong nails situation took a lot out of me and I had to pause a little with this build. Now I'm back with a vengeance or at least until issue 20 when the fairing begins and I'm sure to hop off onto the cross section.

Good to see the build progressing again.

or not. Next deck is so warped the United Federation of Planets has requested a sample to build a better starship drive. Which means I'm jumping back on the Hood I guess while I get things in shape.
