Hi All Made a start on the hull but firstly the hull itself needs some preparation as there are release agents and waxes used in its making that need removing otherwise that part glued to it if not removed can pop off with the slightest knock. The outer hull after filling any imperfections can be rubbed down with wet and dry to remove the shiny part of the gel coat this should then leave the hull ready for a coat of primer. when sanding the outside or inside of the hull its best to use a face mask as the dust is quite harmful to you. The inside of the hull will need to be sanded back where ever you are going to stick something to it and you can see in the pictures where I have used a rotary tool to take off the surface ready for the epoxy. The first thing to add to the inner hull are the side stringers these are glued to the hull leaving a gap above them the thickness of the deck panel ready for when it is attached. Another thing to look out for is the hull can either spread outwards or inwards to rectify this beams will be added at around every four inches along the hull. The deck has three different shapes the lower deck has a curve, Whilst the central bridge area is of a flat section that has a very small linier slope to the centre and the bow area starts flat but has a slight curve where it meets the linier bridge area. For now the fitting of the stern deck area is what we are concentrating on although some of the beams will be left off to aid the fitting of the rudders and prop shafts. The pictures show the beams marked out on plywood ready for cutting out using my scroll saw. Great start Andy, nice to see you get underway.... .. Good advice too on the wearing of a mask when sanding the hull down. It's all too easy to forget that some of the materials we work with can be quite harmful if inhaled..... .. Should always strive to make our hobby as safe as possible..... Look forward to your next update... Regards Alan

Hi All Today I cut the beams I marked out yesterday then it was a case of spot glueing them all together and then sanding the top curve so all the beams are the same shape so the deck will fit across them properly. After the beams were all the same shape they were separated ready for fitting. You may have noticed the beams are all the same length the reason for this is they are all 202 mm long which is the widest part of the deck the other beams will be trimmed to fit as the hull tapers to the bow and stern. Next the side stringers were marked off at 4 inch intervals to give a guide for the beams placing. the four most forward beams have been added along with some fillets from off cuts to give a bigger glue to wood area and lastly the stern beam was added. the rest of the beams will be added after the hull is fitted out with the running gear. The build is stalled right now as I am awaiting the arrival of the A frames for the outer prop shafts before fitting them. Hi All Apart from cutting the hull for the prop shafts there will be some segmentation of the hull by the use of bulkheads to create compartments in case of any water ingress. Using epoxy to fix these in place is fine but there may still be a place that water could get through the bulkhead so I have bought a fibreglass kit from the same people I got the resin kit off. They do several sizes but this is the one I got and should cover the build and have some over for other projects. http://www.mbfg.co.uk/fi...s_repair_kit_tools.html

Hi Mick I imagine this will go with 3 geared motors at full bore and realise it could do some damage to the more sedate models sailing along. I think I might ask for speed half hour so accidents dont happen. Regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
