Hi All
Just starting my build and already wish to ask a few questions,so here goes..
1)when starting out should i use the glue provided with issue 1 or get some other(better) glue.
2)The jig thingie that everyboby seems to use looks straight forward to build, when do you guys start using it.
3)lightly sand parts to be glued to provide a good key, common practice I should think but what grit sandpaper are you guys using
Stupid uninteresting questions for you master builders out there but i am asking anyway
Regards
Trev

Hi Trev, welcome to the forum. In answer to your questions,

1) Use aliphatic or Evostik wood glues as the "glue" provided is, in my opinion, rubbish.

2) The jig. Use when you have all 3 parts of the keel. The jig is not necessary but it does help.

3) Use a medium grade sandpaper or wet and dry or a small, flat modelling file.

Hope this is of help although you'll probably get better advice off other shipmates.

Current builds :- Hachette 1/16 Tiger Tank
H.M.S Victory, Santisima Trinidad (Section), 1/8 scale Aston Martin DB5, 1/8 scale McLaren, YNWA

Thanx mate
any advice is good advice in my opinion, the glue you mention is obviously from UK and not available here but there are many good types of wood glue available which i already use since i do a bit of woodworking.will use one of those
thanx again

Hey

I have got the 2 parts of the hull and have built my jig and am using it as some of the wood between the slots on the 2ND part of the hull started to bend Confused so to stop it getting worse I built the jig to keep the model upright. I dont have the experience of these guys but so far the glue provided is holding fine, I will refill the little pot with other glue when its empty.Flapper LOL
Current build : The Victory
Pending builds : none - yet
Built loads of bikes trucks planes and boats - all plastic kits.
on wish list - a 1:24 spitfire, in wood, plastic, just as long as I can build it :)
