***spoiler alert. If you have not seen the movie yet dont read any further**

I am sure most you you have seen the movie at least once.if not come back here once you have seen it

I generally loved the movie, but I was a bit disappointed with the spaceship designs for episode 7.

It looks like the Tie fighters just got a paint job and the x wings were pretty similar too.

Kylo Rens ship wasnt very awe inspiring either and the star destroyers were not much different from the original series

Now maybe this was deliberate to appeal to the fans of the original series, but since 30 years are supposed to have passed since the end of episode 6 you would think there had been a bit more progress in ship building. I wish there had been some new designs.

What do you think?

Loved the film!!Cool Cool Cool

You've got a point, but on the other hand look at our own 'Earth bound' examples - the B52 was designed in 1952 and our own Tornado in 1979 - both are well over 30 years old but look pretty much identical to the first variants, all the up-grading and improvements over those 30 years have been internal, better avionics and smarter weapons.
At least we did see a two seat 'Special Ops' Tie Fighter and the good ol' 'Pile of Junk' is still going strong! (How old is she supposed to be?)
I think it's mainly a case of keeping the brand image going (as well as 'If it ain't broke - don't mess with it!)BigGrin

Yes I liked the fact that they went to back to "traditional " Star Wars themes and you dont want things to change too much.I guess I was thinking what JJ did with Star Trek he may do here-A complete redesign (at least of the interiors of the ships).

Maybe Revell and Bandai paid JJ to keep the ships similar so they wouldnt need to retool their molds for the kits BigGrin BigGrin Flapper

Alright looks like my Starwars ship geek is gonna come out in this post.

Some of the Tie fighters yes look the same minus the paint change. Like said in a post above its all about the internals and upgrades. Also like stated we did get the new dual cockpit with under turret version which was pretty cool.

The new X-Wing is not nearly as close to the original. The old one is the T-65. This one is the T-70. I bought the Starwars Miniatures FA expansion that has T-70 in it. Its differences really stand out on the model, but what I was disappointed in is that they don't come across on the screen because you mostly see the T-70's zipping across the screen with fast cuts so you don't get a good look at them. They main difference is the wings. The engines are four half circles that split, and the wings also split as well, so that when closed it looks like two large engines and single wings. Its why many people confused it for the Z-95 Headhunter when images first came online.

I agree that Kylo's shuttle was uninspired. I did like the Storm Trooper dropships though. while nothing over styles, they were exactly what they should have been. Straight forward and practical.

While I loved the reveal of the Falcon, I was a bit disappointed that the ship they were running too got blown up because I wanted to see move of it. Looked cool for the little bit I got to see.

While I love the movie, nothing original at all. But maybe that was intended as we have 2+ movies coming.

I didn't realize this but my son and I were talking and if we go with the abandoned EU the Millennium Falcon is like somewhere in the 100 years old mark.

BigGrin Sure glad they didn't waste stuff way back when.
