Can anybody please give me some advise on how to prepare the metal parts before painting. I finished my cannon and carronade, (Must say I'm very impressed for my first time )but the paint on the metal bits keep cumming off. Any help will be appreciated. Is there a spell checker somewhere, I'm a Afrikaans outjie and my spelling aren't up to much . Thanks for all the help, I really don't know how anybody can start a build without the help of a forum.

I haven't used raw paint on any of my metal work, I have been priming them with Halfords grey primer, so far no paint has come off. Ship Builds on the go

If you have a "Games Workshop" near you try their "Chaos Black" spray. Works a treat. Bob

Hi JGWray I do NOT paint my metal parts so far BUT based on this tip here I got myself a bottle of "Brass Black". Haven't tried it on the cannons yet but all other brass parts are black within seconds. Regard Mr.Quist My build diary hereCurrent Build:HMS Victory

This section took the longest, for me anyway, I used a dremel sanding drum at low speed, so not to remove too much material, as one slip, you really could mess it all up. Here is where I'm at so far, just need some tidying up right now. Ship Builds on the go

Hey JG I got a can of Tamiya primer from the aviation shop, its grey so you know if you haven't painted something completely, I took their advice on the primer thing. It dries really quickly and smooth so painting over it is no problem Current build : The Victory Pending builds : none - yet Built loads of bikes trucks planes and boats - all plastic kits. on wish list - a 1:24 spitfire, in wood, plastic, just as long as I can build it :)

I use 'Chaos Black' as well. Also used it on the deck support upright, instead of painting it. Now they look like i pulled them out of a fire! They are jet black. i dont know what weapons will be used in ww3 but ww4 will be sticks and stones.

I used my Black Spur (like a dremel) for the stern section and bow where I packed it out with balsa wood then finished it off by hand...still a lot of graft but well worth it though...arms are killing me Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

My arms falling off at the mo doing mine with sand paper Bob Yeah, I only used the dremel on the aft section, due to restricted movement with my sanding stick (That sounds rude lol )there wasn't much sanding needed on the main stretch of the hull.
