If you're looking for some sort of source for cases to enclose your finished models, the cases from Woody Joe might be a solution worth investigating. I've made a few architectural models and would like to have them enclosed to avoid the dust removal issue. These would work for any type of model as they are available in 33 different sizes! I couldn't tell if the dimensions given are the outside size of the case or the free space inside the case. So, I ordered one to see the quality and wether the size given is inside or outside. The size quoted is for out side dimensions. They are shipped flat and without glass, or Plexiglas, your choice. Woody Joe recommends 2mm or 3mm. The slots measure at about 3.5mm. I also wanted to see if it would be feasible to modify the case in one dimension. For instance, you find a case of the perfect size in depth and length, but it's way too tall. Would it be possible to somehow modify it by cutting the wood shorter, then rejoining with a dowel or such? The other issue with model cases is how do you remove the model if necessary? With these cases the top panel of glass can be placed in the rabbet with no glue, but that assumes the model will fit back through the opening in the top. This particular model won't fit through the top so I'll have to leave the bottom tenons unglued so the whole case lifts off of the bottom base. The quality of the wood is very nice and the pieces fit with great precision. The one you see here was 8,000 yen or 65USD or 60 euros or 42 pounds. I bought it from ZooToyz. He doesn't list all the sizes, but he can get whatever size you want. You can see all the sizes available on Woody Joe's web site. I've spent a ton of money with him and never a problem.
