I wonder if Tomick could answer a question, looking at issue 27 they have canon support blocks for the middle deck, I wondered why we didnt have these for the lower deck?

Thanks in advance Mr T.

Hi Colin

I would think the main reason would be the additional strength created from stem to stern, by using the continual run of timber, which is then pinned and glued to each rib, deck etc.

As a bit of an aside, I would like to think that AL and DeAg have also made allowance for the fact that the Lower Deck cannons were 32 pounders, which are slightly larger than the Middle Decks 24 pounders, and might need additional strength to the point of fixing. But I doubt this is the reason LOL LOL

See ya. Wink

Colin,

You'll notice that the middle deck gun rails are not as tall as the lower deck gun rails, and therefore additional height and support strength is needed for the middle deck gun rails, which the blocks provide.
