Hi All
Whilst not strictly a build, more a renovation,I live in Durban on the East Coast of South Africa,i have been fortunate in that i have been able to purchase a holiday/retirement cottage further down the east coast in a village called Leisure Bay about 5km from the town of Port Edward,on clearing out the rubbish from the previous owner i came across a model ship made completly out of steel and welded together,On doing some local research i was surprised to find out that not more than a couple of hundred meters from my front door lies the oldest ship wreak in Soutern Africa The Sao Jao from 1552 600 people on board carring chinese pottery & beads + pepper,100 people drowned in the wreak and the survivours 500 souls set off along the beach on foot for Lourenso Marquars in Mozambque the nearest settelment, after 7 months only 6 survivours managed to reach LM.So i assume the steel model is supposed to be a replica of the Portugese ship Sao Pao,she is rusty and needs cleaning and painting and once complete will go on display in my cottage,oh also pottery shards can still be found on the beach and i have so far managed to find 3 pieces,I am attaching a couple of pics i hope,i hope my post is not to boring and someone finds it interesting
Regards
Trevor

If my ship is going down...i'm bloody well getting off

Nice finds Trev. I'd love it if I found anything like that while having a clear out, and to have that sort of history/finds on my local beach would be great.

Anyway I found it interesting and hope you'll do a restoration diary log for us all to watch.

I wish I were a glow worm,
A glow worm's never glum,
'Cause how can you be grumpy?
When the sun shines out ya bum!!
