Hello all. I just ordered the Victory kit and, while I have tried my hand (not too successfully) a few years ago with wooden ship models, I still consider myself a noob. What got me to try again was the massive amount of support I saw here as well as the official build diary and the build diaries of many of you. I had thought about the Soverign or the San Felipe, but don't have the courage for them yet.  I spent the better part of the past few days going through all 35 pages of the hundreds of topics on the Build Discussion forum. I got a really good idea of the build. I thought about looking through all 85 pages of topics on this General Discussion forum, but I found the index, so thankfully, I think I will skip doing that.  One question I have about the kit itself is probably the biggest issue I saw in the Build Forum: the infamous Rib 15. Has that been corrected in newer kit production or is it still an issue? Since I don't have my kit, and since all of the other questions I thought of were answered in the forum threads, I don't have any other questions.....yet.

Welcome aboard and you've made a great choice in selecting the Vic. The instructions you get are by far the best out there and have been written with new builders specifically in mind. That coupled with the official builds, the many diaries and a multitude of experienced builders ready to assist if needed then I'm sure you'll end up with a great showpiece. .. Biggest recommendation I can give at this stage is compile a build diary, (earn yourself a medal in the process) that way we can follow your progress and keep you on the right track... . With rib 15, shouldn't be a problem for you but if it is then rest assured it can be resolved... Good luck with your build.... Regards Alan

I have the rib 15 problem, though it's impossible to say how old my kit is, since I grabbed it off of ebay. In my opinion, the hullaballoo about rib 15 is overrated. One can just add a strip of wood to the rib, sand it into shape and you're good to go. By the time you actually have to deal with rib 15, you'll be swimming in scrap wood, so no worries.

Good buy and hope you enjoy it. Lots of work to do over many months and years and well worth the cost.
I agree with Greyhawk. Rib 15 was a problem for some and I can't remember now if I had it as well but it is not the only rib with problems. However they can all be sorted during the fairing stage. Take your time and don't skimp anything. You can add strips or sand back as required art that time.

Rib 15 is still a problem but as others have said, it's not difficult to fix. I have several other ribs that appear to be low compared with the keel but adding some strips of wood and sanding them flush soon sorts them.
