Hello Modelers from all corners of he globe.
First, I must say, the fabrication talent displayed in this forum is prodigious!
I look forward to exploring these pages.
A little of my background-
When I started my career it was as a model builder. I came on the heels of Star Wars and Blade Runner and had the honor of getting to know and work with many of the guys (and gal) that built the models. Model building didn't last long because of CGI but I did get to contribute a little. The most notable was I was foreman on building the "DeepCore" miniature for Jim Camerons "The Abyss" and later worked on Star Trek TNG and built a miniature of their first season shuttle, the "ElBaz" along with a destroyed saucer section with some internal decks shown.
I switched from model making to spfx, first big show was Steven Spielberg's "Hook" where I made Pirate town set pieces and lots of props. I made the Lost Boys egg gun, which had to hold a live chicken and shoot egg yolks- it was bizarre, yes.
I have a long list of credits on shows like Jurassic Park, Flintstones, SeaQuest, FireFly, Solaris, Van Helsing, Pirates of the Caribbean, IronMan, BatMan(several), Capt America, etc. Too many. But while many involved props as well as spfx, none included miniatures which is what this forum is all about...
But this may change. I'm due to start work on a show where there will be several miniatures needed. It was while doing research for the show that got me back into model building and led me here. There are directors out there that know that miniatures look better than CGI...and I say it's about gawd damn time.

Hi copper green,
welcome to the forum.I am forum support for USa so let me know if I can help in any way.

I would love to see some pictures of your work.Building models for movies is my dream job.I know Randy Cooper a bit.I have several of his models and have seen some of the stuff he has done in the movies.

I agree about CGI.Much better to have a real model.

Thanks for the warm welcomes...I'd love to buy you all a round. It would be great to actually meet. On my bucket list is to attend Tank Day at Bovington(sp?)- if life grants me that wish the ultimate fantasy was you chaps having an exhibit there or concurrent meet I could crash...

As for current builds, I'm working on a HE 111P in 1/48 and expecting the Revell 1/32 w/Eduards PE accessories. I'd like to spend my time but these are for work- I need to generate a 1/4 scale SolidWorks assembly model for manufacture. Also sitting on the shelf but not as urgent is a 1/48 Hasagawa JU87 Stuka.
There is a Polar Lights 2001 Moon Bus in my closet that I started when I was working in Manhattan on "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". I didn't have my airbrush there so in storage it went. (on a side note I remember walking into a "Pic and Save", which was an overstock discount store back in the late '60's early '70's at age 9 or so and seeing about 5 or 6 dozen of the original kits on the top of the isle shelves).
Also in the closet are two AMT 1/48 scale (22") Space 1999 Eagle Transporter kits recently released. Currently on hold waiting on aluminum goodies. I'm planning on machining a run of the Pod sensor discs, as they are not included in the pricey upgrade packs....
And finally, I've subscribed to the Millennium Falcon kit. (Gawd help me).
I have to say- building models again is a two edged sword- I have *CDO* so bad (OCD alphabetized) that oft times what should be a relaxing hobby ends up spiking my blood pressure and flushing whatever self esteem I might have squirreled.
Hmmm, meditation pre/post any bench time?

I'll scan some old Abyss shop photos and post them as well as some other stuff.
Here is a little behind the scenes vid I took. It needs no description.
Also, this is the first time I've uploaded this to the web. Should be interesting where it turns up. Somewhere I have the version with sound but that's mostly roaring from the waterfall. The sound guys LOVED that waterfall...

The other side of the waterfall...

A warm welcome to the forum CopperGreen, it seems that you've had a very interesting career to date, great to have someone of your experience on board with us!! Cool ThumpUp

As an aviation modelling fan, I'd be particularly interested to see some of your work on the Heinkel He-111 builds and the Ju-87 'Stuka' as well? ThumpUp

Here I am in the '80's.
Miniature was for some show I think was called "Something Is Out There" or such.
I didn't build or paint the whole thing myself of course- Ken, Terry, Dale, Gil and your's truly.
I just hooked up my new all in one printer scanner and will add pictures of the DeepCore miniature being built if anyone is interested.

Hi CopperGreen, that is an impressive piece of modelmaking with some cool lighting and very realistically weathered too. Well done to you and your fellow builders and appreciate you taking the time to show your work!! Cool ThumpUp

I'm not a sci-fi fan as such (though I am interested in real space), but I do appreciate great modelling of any genre so I'd be keen on seeing some more of your work? Well done again.
