Hi,
Delboy, Kev, Jase, Dave, Nem, Tigerace.

My thanks go to you all for your grateful comments.

Update on the tailfin so far is that I have built the edges of the stabilizers up with 3x5 mm wood to match the height of the leading edge ( metal parts ).

More soon.

Regards

Trev.

UPDATE: SPITFIRE.
280216.

Tailfin.

Fitting Metal Edges.

Fitting Wood Internal Reinforcements to Stabilisers.

This week final fit to all metal edges on the tail fin plus wooden internal reinforcements topside and underside to the stabilisers' have fitted more reinforcements to my build than the official build but that's me, what I did find when fitting it was easier to file down the wood strips to were they meet the metal parts before you cut them.

I found it a lot less difficult to hold the wood strip and sand or file before cutting to length as they are small parts.

Tail Section with Leading Edge, Stabilisers, Wood Reinforcements fitted next to fit metal plates to Tailfin.

Thanks for looking.

Regards

Trev.

Trev.

This is looking wonderful.

I think the build would be a bit beyond my capabilities as it does seem to need a steady hand and keen eye to get the best out of the parts supplied.

Hope the rest of the build goes well.

Happy Modelling

Hi Trev,

I have spent two very pleasant afternoons reading your build log from start to present day and was inspired to order the spitfire for myself.

My wife asked "where will you put it?" I replied "worry about that in 32 Months time".

My work space is only large enough for one build at a time and as my D51 is completed I felt lost without a model.

Thanks to you, part one has arrived and I'm underway and looking forward to the build.

Very impressed with your work, I hope that I can achieve as good a build as you are.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Regards, Alec

Hi Tony,
This this is one of the easy builds, most of the parts are already cut to shape and very well done to, so it's just a matter of assemble and taking your time. The only parts on my build that needed attention were some of the metal parts where they would not line up with out adjustment.

Thank you for looking in.

Trev

Hi Alac,
Welcome to the Spitfire builds, first thank you for reading my build diary, as you know the Spit diary runs for 32 months I have received 30 issues but still a lot to do, this has been a great build for me and I am pleased you have received your first part.

You say you have limited work space the only time the spit gets large will be when you join the wings to the fuselage by then you will be used to it and it won't be a problem it will just be a great build.

Looking forward to your pictures.

Regards

Trev

A cracking build Trev, so very neat and tidy and you've managed to achieve a superb fit to those metal leading/trailing edges, couldn't be better!! Great work on the rivet detail for the fin panels too, it takes some skill to get them straight like that - especially on such an awkwardly shaped panel!! Cool Cool

Very well done my friend, getting nearer to the finish line now and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the end result!! Drool Cool ThumpUp

Hi Kev,
Thank you for your nice comments, I did have a bit of a problem as one of the leading edges would not line up, the reason was that I had to chamfer a small angle on the back edge of the stabiliser to let it in a bit which then lined up, plus a small amount of metal filing to finish it off.

All good fun.

Trev.

Hello again Trev,

Thanks for the insight into your methods for achieving such a great finish my friend, very interesting and yes I agree, "all good fun", but it's the little problems that make modelmaking so interesting inmy opinion and will always give such a great feeling of satisfaction when they have been overcome? I'd be bored if every build went together without fault!! BigGrin

Keep up the great work Trev. Cool ThumpUp

UPDATE:SPITFIRE.
050316.

Assemble Metal Parts To Tail plane.

This is a small update today my main objective will be to rivet and fit the tailfin metal parts and then move on to the stabilisers and Tailfin rudder.

The picture below is about as far as I am at present, should be an interesting day.
