Hi all

This subject has been touched on and it is something I am seriously considering.

Cornwall do lime strips 0.5mm x 5mm and 1 mm x 5mm in 1 metre lengths at 31p and 36p respectively - sure it will be expensive - north of 60 quid at a guess but I think it would lead to a more aesthetically pleasing finish,as instead of using pins to secure the ends I would use a dab of super glue.

My concern is this. By double planking to what extent would it affect the profile of the hull? For example would it affect the fixing of the keel the gallery and the extent to which the guns protrude from the gun ports - would they look out of proportion? - also which would be the better option 0.5mm or 1mm thickness. Any input would be appreciated!.

If I double planked then I would use 0.5mm planks and by the time you have sanded them back it would make little or no difference to the hull. Both my Black Pearls are double planked and they use 0.5mm second planks.BigGrin

I had originally considered using 1mm thick planking, but after using some 0.5 for the launch, I think the latter would be much better as it is thinner but has the same appearance, thus it wouldn't alter the overall hull dimensions very much at all.

I'm still convinced that double planking is the way to go.
Think it will help not only with those little sanding flaws but also to form the gun ports better.

My dad recently double planked the area round the Bounty's gun ports and it looks mighty fine, especially when framed as well.

hi bob the only reason i will double plank is just to get the gunports right..2mm planks is thick wood so can be sanded to perfect it but i would like the edge around the framed ports, but still not decided yet..paul
