I'm new to the forum and have been looking at some of the amazing build diaries, these have really inspired me to start one of my own. I've decided to build the Victory and having no serious modelling skills (aside from some airfix kits) thought that building it in stages with detailed step by step instructions would be the way to go. I'm going to be painting the ship and will not be displaying the sails. To start with I've received parts 1-10 and below is my current progress... Assembling the bow of the ship, the frames are dry fitted and just for show. The next part of the Keel has been added and more frames built, I've also constructed a Jig out of an old shelf kit. Next I assembled the cannon and carronade. I also ordered the Victory paint set so the woodwork has received a coat of Yellow Ochre. The anchor was fairly straightforward, just a case of filing out the middle, messing around with some cotton and painting it black. The LaunchThis was the part I thought things would get tricky... Frame assembled... I begin sanding and a frame snaps! this was rectified with some wood glue and the next day we're ready to sand again. So far so good! Now for the planking... Quite pleased with the result, took a couple of hours. The only part I'm not happy with is the bow, some of the planks duck under one another and its not very smooth. As I'll be painting the launch I'm hoping some sanding/filling and the paint will hide this. I'll update this when I've made more progress... Currently building: HMS Victory

Nice start Edward! Hope you enjoy the experience of building such a fine model. I expect we will both be seeking advice from some of the more experienced forum members during the next couple of years. Gary

Thanks Gary, I'm sure we will! In the meantime I've got an old 1:180 airfix kit of the victory I'm building which is keeping me distracted from waiting for the next parts. It's also serving as good painting practice. Currently building: HMS Victory
