Hi All More done the shafts have had more glass fibre cloth added to the hull along with the bulkhead being permanently fixed using more resin and glass fibre. After the resin had set the inner two shafts [no's 2 and 3] from shaft 1 and any resin removed and all was checked to see that they still assembled correctly. Next a dam was made around the shafts on the outer hull and resin poured into the hole cut for the shafts to go through again once the resin had set the excess brass tube was removed from the outer hull. Now its a case of sanding back the resin/brass till it conform's to the hull shape, the dam leaked a little on one side but the two hollows can easily be filled with P38. Next job will be to fit the three A frames to the hull and shafts but that will be done after the P38 is used to restore the centre keel and any other things that may need filling. More soon. Hi All The keel has now been built back up and sanded back and any small marks on the hull around the stern filled and sanded. The rebuild still needs a little more attention but Im quite happy with the result so far. Top work Andy!!
Knowing nothing about R/C boats myself, I have a question for you Andy? I know that P-38 is quite tough stuff and I think you said somewhere that you would be putting a 'gel' coat over the repair, but will that stand up to any hard knocks on the keel or do you intend to place a brass keel strip along the top of it as is used on real boats?
Interested to know what the procedure is with such things?
Kev

That is some very neat and tidy work. Very smart way of using tge card jig to make sure all of the prop shafts lined up correctly. Happy Modelling

Hi Tony Thanks for you comments and looking in, @ Kev there will be no need to add anything to the keel in this area, all it will need now is sealing and painting as the three 50 mil dia props and the three rudders will prevent this area from contacting anything that could damage it again. Hi All This is the part where the 'A' frames are fitted so more chopping holes in the hull. The central A frame was firstly cut to size then the hull marked out for the cuts in the hull, then using the prop shafts to get the correct height the A frame was placed in position. The two outer A frames were positioned in the same way the more observant of you may notice the brass fillets in the ends of the A frames this is because the A frames are slightly bigger than the 6mm prop shaft these fillets fill prevent end flex when finally fitted in place. Once the A frames were in position P38 was used to fill any holes inside and outside, once this had set the proxxon grinded away the excess on the inner and outer surfaces. Lastly more fibre glass and resin was used to get a water tight seal on the inside hull. Next it will be the shaping of the outer hull P38 to blend in with the hull. More soon. Crikey, there's a lot of work involved in this Andy but you're making a good job of it - well done!! I bet you can't wait to get onto more detailed stuff later, though obviously it's what you do now that makes all the difference in the end?
Well done again and keep up the good work - I'm enjoying this!!
