Hi guys

I have just finished the gratings for the deck my stage 48 of my 12 month build, looking at the next set of instructions which is preparing the gun tackle and rigging the guns to the deck. I was after a bit of advice is it better to do the copper plating now rather than later as I can imagine the guns falling about all over the place when it is turned on it's side/upside down when fitting the tiles. If I do it now it will stop that happening.

Any advice, thanks in advance

Terry

I think now is the time before you progress further as the hull will need to be upside down so the more detail you add now the more chance of damage or parts falling off.
Happy Modelling

As you've already completed the planking you may want to build a new jig to hold the ship. You can use 2 x 10mm an 1 x 8mm dowels to make dummy masts. Ensure they come to the same height and clear the bow and poop deck planking then drill 3 holes in a wood base. Insert the masts and then tip the ship upside down and place in the holes you drilled. This should keep the hull steady while you get on with the tilling.

Good luck.

BigGrin Very nice job on the gratings Terry Cool When I put my ship upside down I use offcuts of polystirean on the foredeck and aftdeck to lift the sides up off the table .Hope this helps

Hi Terry, nothing to stop you copper plating the hull now before you start adding the detail to the decks. Would also do the rudder at the same time, rudder is constructed at Stage 51. It's a lengthy job but looks excellent when done correctly.... She's looking great right now and look forward to seeing your progress on the plating. Great advice from John with dowels in the mast holes, enables you to work on the upturned hull. Good luck with the plating...
