Very nice update.

Certainly a lot of masking and detail work on such a large model.

Hope you are having great fun building this one

I love it! I noticed that you painted the red over the grey. I know that's what Steve Dymszo recommended to get a deeper red color. Did you notice that it made the red deeper in color?

It did seem to help. I mixed red with just a dab of red brown as well, as plain red it just to red.

Can I ask what paint you used for the yellow panel shade?

I mixed yellow with a dab of red brown. It actually looks much more yellow on camera than it does to the eye. To the eye it's a little more toned down and rusty colored. Especially in the rear vector plates, it looks a little more rusty than the camera sees it. Probably due to lighting or something.

OK. So as you've probably seen earlier in my posts, when I cut out the hold floor for the hatch to be open, I printed out a picture of the space from a still grab from the movie.

I had also done that for the circuit bay door area, but then created a little circuit bay room with a light in it. Well, I've decided I wanted to try to create a real area under the hold floor hatch. So I started with some styrene sheet and tube.

OK. Then added a couple little greeblies cut from (again) my old MPC falcon kit.

At this point, I was just gonna add some more little stuff and just paint the bottom, but then I realized one of the upper hull recesses fit under the floor hatch. So I cut it down and added it under my styrene sheet.

Then sprayed black, and then detailed and weathered.

A test under the floor....

Then lit.

Now the only question is going to be whether or not this will fit in the Falcon when it's placed inside. If not, I can always resort back to my photograph. HOWEVER, I still have not decided whether or not the hold will be displayed separately. But still plenty of time to figure it all out. But I really like the way it turned out. Adds some nice depth and reality to it.

Looks great.. Did that mod myself and its very satisying to see the end result .. I think when you consider the time and money we've all invested into this beastie its nice to add your own little flourishes to truly make it your own...
I was worried about the underfloor space issue too but when you look at the shape of the falcons hull it makes sense that if the hold is sitting level there will be a gap under the rear bottom of the hold... Thats not to say we might not have to modify whatever bracket etc is supplied to hold the hold....Laugh Laugh Laugh
Keep up the great work..

That,s looks fantastic, and well presented from start to finish. Not much different from the movie picture to the finished look. I would be very pleased with that myself.

Very impressive indeed.

Unpainted the part is difficult to understand but seeing it all painted and weathered it looks brilliant. Very well done

So, some more progress. Painted the recessed areas of the hull

Then painted the little thingy the blue-gray up by the turret.

Then did some more painting of the bottom hull. More progress being made.

Looking great!

Just curious, what weathering are you planning for the Hull? You going to do the tooth brush method like Steve Dymszo or doing something else like pastels or oils?

Hadn't thought about it. I'm just gonna keep on going with airbrushing and hand brushing at this point and see what I feel it needs.

Really love your solution to the floor pits. Very nicely done and very effective bro! One thing I hate to admit to is that the insignia white just doesn't look right as a base for the falcon. Maybe it's just me thou.

Well, we'll see how it looks once all the other layers of paint have been applied.

I founds Insignia White to be a great base for further layers, although it seems too pale without adjustment. I mixed a few different shades of hull colour, and those - with all the streaks and blots that cover the surface - darken it considerably. I ended up building a few layers of colour with an airbrush before the grey and red panels were applied, plus washes of blue, grey or brown in the recesses between hull plates.

Another update with more painting. It's also one of those things that... when done, there'll probably be something else you notice later to do. So even though I'm considering it just about done, that could change a year from now when finally getting the model all together.

Hi colson
Your paintwork on the millennium falcon is excellent, your doing a fantastic job on her. I think your a big inspiration to the members of this forum who are building this beast of a ship " including myself ".BigGrin

Good luck.

Nice job, Colson
Your paintwork and finish is excellent.
I know what you mean when you say you'll probable find something you've missed, that's why mine is covered over and put away for now, to stop me tinkering with it too much.
Great work
