Hi guys, I'm considering using black fishing line 0.25mm for treenails as demonstrated in Chris's/ Magpie's Suprise build. I've tried to source some online but it seems black is hard to find and then its expensive ie nearly a tenner. So does anyone know of a reasonably priced source online? Thanks Pam's shipyard is closed for now no more room!

Thanks I thought of doing this as well but couldn't find anything suitable at a reasonable price, so I used the same idea but with brass wire instead. Theres tons of brass wire in all sorts of sizes on ebay if you wanted to consider an alternative. Regards, Tom

Sorry Pam, I just checked my fishing supplies, thought I had some you could have but I seem to have misplaced some of my stuff, been a few years since I went fishing, but If I do come across it, I will send it on. PS Maplins sell spools of all diameters of copper wire. Ship Builds on the go

I got it from a place I worked at over the summer and it was more a case of getting it and then finding out the size it was instead of choosing a size, lol. Regards, Tom

Mac,do you have any fishing tackle shops near you?If so then go there & ask, unfortunately breaking strain(lbs) is not relevant to size,I have some 50lb breaking strain for sea angling that is actually thinner than some of my freshwater gear...doesn't make sense but there you go. I to trawled ebay & found some 0.25mm line but it was braided which I didn't know about till I got it so now I will wend my weary way to the temptation that is my local tackle shop...I can hear the wife groaning already Rob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

hey also um dont forget about cocktail sticks.
i experimented by soaking a few in teak oil, various wood stains and black paint and adding the points into the holes and chopping them off at deck level. no pics as the dog munched on it afterwards but it worked. and someone else on here mentioned cocktail sticks too.

I did try to find the right one online that I got, Mine is 0.25mm 12lb line in black , made by Browning fishing feeda leader.
I got it of the local market in Towyn North wales I am presuming it is sea fishing line. So what you ordered should be fine. ( if the diam is correct).
Sorry I couldn't help more.. Chris..On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

anyway i have just checked and maxima 10lb line is 0.30mm in diameter so 15lb line would be 0.35-0.40mm so 8lb should be about right cheers benny

Well Secretreeve its another option but will need hundreds if not thousands for Vic but when it comes to it, it will take thousands of drilled holes for the fishing line method.
