AMATI POUNCE WHEELS

Having placed an order with Cornwall Model Boats this week for some wood that I will use on my present build I notice a “new” tool by Amati listed on the site.

https://www.cornwallmode...p;TB=O&ACTION=Go%21

This new tool is described as a “Pounce Wheels Set” and is advertised as being ideal for helping make the sails on your ship models.
As all of the packing is written in Italian the rough translation is as follows:

Pounce Wheels for Sails and Rivets
Ideal to create riveting, on airplanes and tanks.
Practical to simulate the seams of the sails on sailing ships.
Made of solid material.
Includes 4 steel wheels with different pitch.

The Wheels are very strong steel with no flex as might be expected.

The 4 wheels included with the set allow for the following spacing:
Wheel A – 1.1mm between holes
Wheel B – 1.5mm between holes
Wheel C – 2.0mm between holes
Wheel D – 2.5mm between holes

The handle reminds me of an Olfa Cutter in design and seems robust enough to take some heavy work. It has a thumb operated safety cover to protect the blade when not in use.

When I get to making the sails on my build I will update the diary on how effective this tool is.

Hi Tony, BigGrin

Looks good.

I recently purchased two Trumpeter versions of this type of tool.

With the amount of rivet marking I`m into at the moment, I`ve managed to wear one out.

Thing is, I`ve not worn out the wheel teeth, but the spindle the wheel revolves around.

With a metal wheel turning around a plastic spindle, the spindle will always lose.

That said, these are good little tools and not so seriously expensive to replace.

Would be keen to hear your verdict on the results they produce.

Derek

That is a shame when parts wear out like this. The Amati version has a metal spindle so hopefully it might last out a little longer. As soon as I get to my sail making part of the build I will update on how useful this tool is. BigGrin

Hi Tony,

Thanks for posting on this one, I have worn my De-Ago wheel out that was supplied for the Spitfire so I had to hand make a new one.
