HI all my next bit of light relief after the Citroen
this kit has really strange build order in that the body is built round the interior which is ok if you're spraying it normally but the paint job I intend will have some feathering so I need to make sure it will all line up correctly when put together so( I'm hoping this will work ok) I've tacked all the body together so I can spray the body as a whole, thus making sure it will all line up. I will be trying a couple firsts on this kit Alclad 2 and candy colours so wish me luck.

This will be a simple no frills build, the only thing I'm doing not in the instructions is the paint job.

Hi all well here is tonights update, to all you Alclad 2 experts out there whats hapening here (it looks more like matt silver than chrome and it rubs off with your fingers) (the few small areas which do look like chrome are hard and dont seem to rub off) I used their black microfiller primer then their gloss black base coat then used the Chrome, do I need to give a second coat of the chrome or what?

Don't know much about the Alclads stuff...yet. Here's a video you might want to watch if you haven't already.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AKxXZXTcY4

There other vids out there also. People swear by this paint for chrome and candy colors.

Good luck with the build.

Difficult to say what the issue might be but a couple of suggestions

1. Make sure the gloss coat does not get touched as even the cleanest of fingers will still leave finger marks that can affect paint adhesion.

2. Are you spraying the paint at the correct pressure and ensuring it remains well mixed while doing so.

Alclad settles out very quickly so if you do not keep it swirling in the airbrush container you can end up spaying more particle pigment rather than solvent/pigment

Also if pressure is to high, distance from model to airbrush not correct you can end up with the paint drying before the solvent gets time to latch onto the base coat.

3. When sprayed you can end up with a kind of dust layer and in this case use a very soft brush to sweep away.

4. Are you using the correct alclad as they also do a chrome for lexan and from what I read that is not as durable i guess because lexan bodies are usually transparant and you paint from the inside of these rc car bodies.

5. You can use an alclad varnish coat which will not affect the shine of the chrome.

Hope you manage to get around this issue.
Happy Modelling

HI all, ok so I sorted the chrome out but putting the candy colour over the top seems to have changed the chrome effect (I think in a quite pleasing way) I'm going to do a couple more coats of the cherry red candy then remove the masking then mask up the cherry red and do the chrome and then (cant decide on orange or emerald green candy on the top) personally I'm looking forward to see how it looks, I think It may be better than I visualized originally.

Hi all well here is the next offering I, have had a bit of an accident (trying to cut corners) instead of masking it up with tape I used masking fluid and its reacted with the paint (I think when i put the light bezels on and the VW badge on the front it wont notice much)

Hi all well here is a tiny update I think I've hidden the damage from the masking fluid with a couple of strategically placed hippy flowers

This has brightened my day no end.

Many many years ago my only cousin had one of those old morris minors (no car expert me so excuse if the name is wrong) with the wood work all around the back end.

He flowered it just has you have on your bus - hand painted, original and great fun.

Been looking at this model but even for Revell its quite expensive and not a snap purchase for me.

Really enjoying your build if this one. BigGrin

With the trading news of Hornby n the news today hoping we do not loose Airfix as I can see this pushing Revell and Italeri prices even higher Crying

It looks a stuuner. Born in 1963 me but so relate to the '60's its untrue.

If this was full size we could do a "jolly boy's outing" to some far off land LOL

Very well done think its great how you get through any obstacle and press on with some lovely models Cool

Hi all well in my haste to move this from the leak I've lost the inner skin at the front so will have to model it with the front doors shut (don't think it will notice then) I thought I would add curtains to it, hope you like them.
