Indeed. We have seen it today. Brilliantly executed movie, and Matt Damon's performance was stellar. I have read the book once and listened to an audiobook, and after seeing the move I want to go through it again. And probably will take my stepson to see the movie again. Highly recommended. Saw the Martian this past weekend and enjoyed it...things actually seemed to go too smooth for my tastes but yes it was good.
But hey Darbyvet I really gotta stick up for Interstellar, a little long but I could understand it more then let's say 2001.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Martian and am thinking about putting it on my reading list. How similar is the book to the movie?

True Roger Interstellar was pretty good.I really didnt like Prometheus.I watched it because I just ordered a resin kit of the ship.I kept thinking this is just like Alien only to find out afterward it is an Alien prequel.

I think the book is better and things aren't going so smoothly. I guess this is a limitation of the medium - it's easier to convey some trouble in writing. There's more trial and error going on in the book. And a few "adventures" that were not included in the movie at all. Things that got a few seconds of screen time are sometimes a few pages of the book, with Mark balancing on the edge more than once. It's a very detailed book, everything he does is rooted in science and engineering. Have a read, I think you will be pleased. Lol, I know this is kind of an old discussion, but it's still on the front page.
I have to say that 'The Martian' might be my favorite sci-fi/real space film of the last decade or more. I really liked 'Interstellar' when I saw it, but I think 'The Martian' takes the cake. It's a fun, well-paced film that really captivates you from beginning to end with "real science". I've now seen it 4 times (thanks to the DVD/Blu-Ray release) and I must say that it never disappoint's. Even my younger kids were able to watch it and (somewhat) understand the situation.
That being said, as good as the movie is, the book is WAY better. That is not a knock on the movie, but a testament to how really, really good the book is.

I still haven't watched this movie yet. Gonna have to watch it before I read the book. May pick up the book soon too. I need something to hold me over until I get the next book in the "Expanse" series. If you guys haven't read that you should check it out. DeAgostini kit builds:

I think to book is better than the movie, but the movie doesnt really suffer from what was left out.Matt Damon played the character perfectly.
Someone has to talk to Matt Damon-He keeps needing to be rescued!!!
