You generally get what you pay for. I would guess that they will not keep a sharp edge for very long, and may be difficult to sharpen. I have a cheap plane which worked brilliantly for a week, but now it needs sharpening frequently. Fine if it's only for occasional use.

Looking good Karl! Like the Dry Dock must have cost a packet to rent that!. You’d better charge the visitors to look around your ship when does the tour start. Darron

as this is now official,(no veneer)I shall strip my hull down and re-plank in walnut, very very disappointed in art-latina,is now truly a budget kit, every other manufacturer puts out double planking of the victory,I'm only staying with the build, for the cannons and figures, the victory we are getting bears no resemblance to the one shown on the advertisments. The build is looking excellent Karl, just want to raise an old question regarding rib 15 mate, I know we are adding and subtracting peices of wood to compensate for any irregularities with the ribs, but how far out were the tops of rib 15 in relation to the planking, or if you got around the problem, what did you do? I'm at present on issue 23 and beginning the gun ports, much obliged...Thanks mate... Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

jonny rib15 doe'snt rear it's ugly head until you get to row 15,had to remove 5 layers of planks and refill ribs16,17,18, 19, on starboard side only,I will put up pics tomorrow showing the problem, but now I'm stripping her,I can re-adjust the ribs then. Hi Karl! I hope I got to you before you strip down your hull and re-plank it. If you what to put a veneer on the hull score down the planks with a craft knife at about 1 inch apart only score to about 0.5mm deep then sand with course sand paper. When the score lines have gone, us fine sand paper to finish the hull, before gluing your chosen veneer on top of the lime wood planks. Use 0.5mm veneer planks, if you what to use 1mm planks then repeat the scoring of the planks to reduce the thickness to 1mm. It would be a shame to remove your all your hard work so use what you have as the first layer of planking. Can you tell me if the ship hull is to be double planked.

Overall single planked, but the bottom half of the hull will also be skinned with dark veneer planking. Admin wrote in the thread HMS Victory hull,#20 Posted : 12 October 2010 15:01:45 Quote:Hi All
The hull will be single-planked and can be painted, lightly stained to the colour shown in the finished photos, or coppered, as you prefer. The wood we are supplying is lime (US term 'basswood'). Lime is a hardwood that is also flexible and easily worked, so it's ideal for the purpose. It was used for some of the finest historic carvings in Europe, including those by Grinling Gibbons, whose work included Blenheim Palace and St Paul's Cathedral. Therefore there will be no veneer.
Thanks Admin
As you can see Tomick says one thing and then Admin say another then lock the Ask Admin section of the forum. You just can't get a straight answer can you Karl. I would be more inclined to believe Tomick as he is doing the Official Build and Admin is just answering questions and might not know what the real answer is!. If Admin was wrong you will be kicking yourself. Still a little cleanup work on the hull and you will be soon be planking the way you want!. DON'T LET THEM BEAT YOU! Darron
