Hi Andy,
Very very nice, is this all hand painted and what a contrast of colours, I studded martial arts for many years and I am aware of this type of art.

Well done Andy,

Trev.

BigGrin Hi Trev

Thanks for your comments and looking in. The bust came with a better than normal
guide to painting and history of Date but I also did some searching the get things as right as I could. The black lacquered unadorned armour he favoured and equipped his entire army in the same type.

Now I bet that was a sight to see an entire army equipped with the same black armour marching towards you like today's military forces are kitted out the same but this was 16th century Japan so he literaly paid himself for the kit to dress his army.

Although he favoured the severe all black lacquered 'gomaido' in the Yukinobada style he went to town with his 'jinbaori' or sleeveless campaign jackets with many surviving examples and one that is depicted in this bust.

Regards

AndyCool

Blushing Thanks everyone for your kind comments this is my first bust so its all much appreciated and as always there is room for improvement with the next one as its a learning curve as always. The full Japanese pilot I did ages ago was another first I was almost happy with,

Thanks Andy for a very interesting reply, do you build the paint work up with thin layers over a time, and what type of paint do you use, reason I have a 12th century Englishman Crusader to paint at some time and looking at your work has moved me on to having a go.

BigGrin Hi Trev

The bust was firstly cleaned up to remove any casting marks mould lines then two coats of zero paints white primer/micro filler were applied the bust was then left for around a week so the primer was fully cured. You dont need to wait a week but thats what I chose to do.

The painting was all done by hand using a set of very small brushes I have like those in the link below,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...d085:g:9WEAAOSwcu5URkK4

For the black Lacquered effect I used Tamiyas semi gloss black the rest of the paints I used were from Vallejo and Lifecolor as listed below,

Lifecolor set:- 'black rubber shades, used for the bust base.

Vallejo:- Face painting set.

Vallejo:- Game color large boxed set.

Vallejo:- Game color extra opaque set.

Vallejo:- Model air metallic effects.

Depending on the effect your after such as a hard finish like solid armour then coats can just be applied until you get the effect your happy with, clothing will need several layers of thinned paint to give high and low light effects. There are several good books out there with tips for painting figures and busts, I have the full set from the link below that Spencer first told us about.

http://www.mrblackpublications.com/

Of course you can read all the books you like but the only way to do it is to get stuck in and paint to find the best way that suits your techniques and above all practice on something cheap firstly. Last of all if you have a major disaster then striping back and restarting is also an option. Hope this helps.

Regards

BigGrin Not a problem Del, glad to be of help. Be careful when cleaning up the top edge of the lobster tail of the helmet as the resin is very thin here and too much can easily be taken offCool

Well done Andy, am still baffled by the sheer size of the helmet crescent, which if not detachable, would have his helmet/head being pulled all over the place during battle Laugh

BigGrin Thanks for looking in and your comments Tom.

That crescent has had me baffled too since I made the Armour set but after seeing the elaborate way the helmet is tied onto the head with the helmet straps it looks like it's well seated in place and will not move. The crescent I beleave would have been made of a light wood and as it just clipped in place with a spring type clip would have been easily discarded if it got in the way.Cool

Not sure how I missed this one Andy, I must be getting old and senile?! Nice work, the painting looks good and I love those gold lines against the blue, it really makes the whole bust 'pop' and is very pleasing to the eye!!

Well done!! Cool ThumpUp
