Pack 11 Contains Stages 47 - 50

Stage 47 - Contains the motor for the rear right arm (clockwise).

To start this stage’s assembly, remove the clockwise rotor (fitted in Stage 45) by unscrewing it from the drive shaft.

Also, further internal adjustments are made in Pack 12, therefore you may wish to leave the fitting of the chassis top intil then.

Push the drive shaft of the motor housing into the centre of the motor (from this stage). Then take the ring and snap ring from Stage 40. Push the ring onto the drive shaft, then push the snap ring onto the drive shaft, which has a channel to hold the ring. You will need to apply some pressure; if necessary, use a pair of flat pliers.

Take the rear right rotor arm (from Stage 43). Remove the circular LED cover from the back left rotor arm by removing the two screws. Keep them to hand, as you will replace them later in the assembly. With the screws removed, gently remove the LED board to gain access to the screw holes beneath

Feed the three wires through the triangular hole in the arm, as shown in the photo. Take care that the wires are not pulled or twisted during this step.

Take the bottom of the black rotor guard. Push out the rotor guard support with the 2mm Allen key, as shown. Do not exert too much force on the plastic as this may damage it. Position the rotor guard support on the end of the arm, as shown. The holes of the support should align with those on the arm. Sandwich the rotor guard support between the end of the arm and the motor. Once again, make sure the holes align.

From the underside of the arm, screw the arm, the rotor guard support and the motor together with four M3 x 10mm screws from Stage 40. Tighten the screws with the 2mm Allen key. The inset photo shows the screws in place. Thread the three wires from the motor down through the centre of the arm, as shown in the photo. Do not pull the wires.

Replace the motor LED lights, then reattach the circular cover on the underside of the motor. Use the two screws you removed earlier, and be careful not to overtighten them, or you may crack the lens.

Push the red cover into its slot on the arm, be careful not to trap the wires under the cover.

Pull the motor wires through the underside of the arm, again take care not to kink or trap the wires.

Take the black arm cover and screws (from Stage 40), fit it in place on the arm and secure with the three M2x6mm screws.

This completes the assembly of the rear right arm, we will attach it to the chassis in the next Stage.

Stage 48 - Contains the rear LED board and M2x6mm screws.

Take the rear LED board and two M2x6mm screws from this stage, as well as the rear of the chassis (from Stage 46).
Place the board on the chassis as shown is Step 1, then insert and tighten the two M2x6mm screws in the holes of the LED board. Be careful not to overtighten the screws.

Now take the cable to the flight circuit board and fit it into the socket shown on the LED board.

Set this assembly aside until Stage 50.

Place the M5 nut in the socket in the rear right of the chassis, the circular side of the nut should be facing upwards, while the hexagonal side goes into the hole.

Now take the rear right arm, Pass the arm wire with the white connector into the hole in the chassis, take care not to pull the wire or kink it. Then, pass the three wires from the motor into the opening in the chassis. Remember the wires are delicate, so do not pull them.

Now fix the arm in place, make sure that the four holes of the hinge are perfectly aligned with those in the chassis then insert the four M2x2mm screws (from Stage 29).

Lock the arm in a horizontal position - Take the large M5x16mm screw (from Stage 26) and secure it with the 3mm Allen key. Check the tightness of the arm on the chassis of the drone.

Finally, take the connector of the LED lights and put it into the remaining empty socket on the LED circuit board.

This completes the assembly of this stage, all four arms are in place!

Stage 49 - Contains the final electronic speed control (ESC).

In addition to the fourth ESC supplied with this stage, you will need the drone and the double-sided tape from Stage 39.

Cut a strip of double-sided tape that is the same length as the ESC, then place it on the chassis in the position shown in Step 2 and fix the ESC in place.

Take the black wire from the ESC and connect the jack to the free socket on the black connector.

Take the red wire from the ESC and put the jack into the free socket on the red connector.

Then connect the yellow wire from the motor to the yellow socket on the ESC.

Then take the red wire from the motor, and push the jack into the red socket on the wire from the ESC, as you did with the yellow wire.

Then fit the black wire into the black connector.

This completes the assembly of this stage.

Stage 50 - Contains a ESC wire labelling stickers, the top coverof the control unit, flight sensor board and M2x12mm screws.

Note that Pack 12 contains a wire labelling amendment sheet in relation to Stage 50, Step 4 on page 258.
Also, further internal adjustments are made in Pack 12, therefore you may wish to leave the fitting of the chassis top intil then.

For this stage’s assembly, you will need the receiver stickers from thsi stage for the ESC receiver cables, and three parts of the chassis – the front (from Stage 33), rear (Stage 48) and top (Stage 34). You will also need 12 M2 x 12mm screws from Stage 34 and the LED cable connector from Stage 37.

Slot the front of the chassis in place. It will be held firmly by two screws through the chassis top. Remove the silver ‘number 1’ sticker from its backing and fix it to the receiver cable of the left front motor.

Repeat to fit the other three stickers, one on to each of the ESC receiver cable but ensuring that you follow the amendment sheet information for Pack 11 i.e. that the front left motor/ESC is labelled 1, the front right motor/ESC is labelled 3, the rear left motor/ESC is labelled 4 and the rear right motor/ESC is labelled 2. You must ensure that the ESC's have been placed in the correct postions in respect of each motor.

Take the top of the chassis and pass the four bundles of wires with their stickers through its rectangular opening.

Fit the rear of the chassis in place (assembled in stage 48), paying attention to the way it interlocks with the body.

Now fit the top of the chassis, making sure that the screw holes align at the front, back and sides. Ensure that no cables from the internal circuits are trapped between the top and bottom; however, two LED wires emerge from the rear which will fit in the rear circuit board.

Take the 12 M2x12mm screws and the screwdriver supplied. Tighten the screws in all the holes, as circled in the photo. Do not overtighten the screws or you may break the casing.

Fit the LED cable connector (from Stage 37) into the long socket in the rear LED board.

To finish the installation, connect the LED power wire shown in Step 10 to the rear LED board, fitting the rectangular plug into the remaining socket.

This completes the assembly of this stage, carefully store the remaining parts until needed in the final Pack.

Pack 12 - Contains parts for the final Stages 51-55 plus the Transmitter, LiPo battery and Balancing Charger.

Please note: Correction on Page 295 Flight Check Stabilise mode - The correct position for the CH 5 and CH 6 Switches is in the Middle position, (not in the "Away" position as noted).

Stage 51 - Contains the GPS module and M2x6mm screws.

Take the GPS module and place it on the front of the Sky Rider chassis, as shown in Step 1. Hold the module in place, and tighten the two M2x6mm screws in the holes on either side. Do not overtighten the screws.

This completes this Stage.

Stage 52 - Contains the flight electronic control unit (ECU), the ECU bottom cover and M2x6mm screws.

In addition to the components received with this stage, you will need the top cover of the electronic control unit and flying sensors, four M2x12mm screws (from Stage 50), as well as the cable receiver (from Stage 38).

Place the ECU into the bottom cover, fitting the components together as shown.

Now take the flight sensor board (from Stage 50) and put the white connector into the slot on the control unit.

Take the top cover (Stage 50) and the control unit. You will need both parts side by side for the next step. Push the flight sensor board into the slot in the top cover with light finger pressure. The main photo shows the flight sensor board fixed in its housing. Now close the covers, lining up the top and bottom parts, then take the four M2x12mm screws (from Stage 50) and insert into the screw holes in the bottom cover. Do not overtighten the screws or you may crack the case.

Take the control unit, and put it in place so that the four lugs of the unit are flat on the corresponding pins on the chassis. Take the four M2x6mm screws (from this stage) and insert them in the holes in the lugs. As usual, do not overtighten any of the screws. The decal on the top of the unit indicates the sockets into which the various cables are connected.

Now take the wire from the GPS and put it into the socket indicated by ‘GPS’ on the control unit, as shown. The purple wire should face upwards. Take the connector on the first ESC cable (which you labelled in Stage 50) and insert it into the control unit in the socket indicated by ESC-1. The white wire should be facing upwards.
Repeat with the other three ESC cables. The connectors are inserted into the control unit in the sockets indicated by the letters ESC-2, ESC-3 and ESC-4. The white cables should always be facing upwards.

Take the LED cable connector (from Stage 50) and insert it into the lower row of contacts in the flight control board (see more detail in the photos with the next two steps). There is a diagram showing the order of the wires provided on a sticker on the top of the unit.

Now take the receiver cable (from Stage 38) and connect it to the flight control board. Insert it in the top row of contacts, again following the colour diagram on the top of the unit.

Re-check that the connections are correct, to ensure that the drone functions properly.

The following steps indicate how to attach the receiver to the model. The Receiver – along with the Transmitter, LiPo Battery and Balancing Charger – are provided with the other components received in Pack 12.

Cut two strips of double-sided tape, the same length as the receiver. Stick them on the reverse of the receiver as shown. Then remove the red protective backing from the two strips, and place the receiver on the chassis, towards the rear. Use light finger pressure to affix the receiver.

Take the receiver cable with brown, red and orange wires and secure it to the pins identified with the number 1. The brown cable should be furthest away the receiver, with the orange one on the inside, nearest the receiver.

Take the other wires from the flight control board (which you assembled in Step 15). Fit them in place following the photo on the right. The colour order from pins 2 to 6 is yellow, green, blue, purple, grey. The wires must be secured on the inner contacts adjacent to numbers on the receiver.

This complete's this Stage of the assembly.

Stage 53 - Contains the left side of the body and the rear transparent cover.

Take the rear transparent cover supplied with this stage, and apply a strip of double-sided tape along one side, as shown in the Step 1 photo. Apply another strip along the other side of the rear transparent cover.

Take the left side of the body, supplied with this stage, and apply a strip of double-sided tape on the inside edge of the piece, as shown in the Step 3 photo.

Apply another strip of double-sided tape along the rear edge of the left part of the body (the lower side). Then, apply another strip of double-sided tape on the rear profile of the left part of the body (this time, on the upper side).

Take the section of the body assembled in Stage 41 and apply a strip of double-sided tape along the lower side of the red piece.
Gently pull apart the front of the body that was secured with double-sided tape in Stage 41. The tape allows you to easily remove parts of the body for repairs and maintenance. The tape can be replaced later.

Remove the backing from the double-sided tape on the rear transparent cover, exposing the sticky side.

Fit the rear transparent cover into the right-hand side of the body (from Stage 41), as shown in Step 9. Remove the protective backing from the two strips of tape that you applied, exposing the sticky side. Also remove the backing from the double-sided tape applied in Step 6. Now take the left side of the body and attach it to the right, as shown.

In the next stage, we will remove all the backing paper and replace any strips of tape to complete the body of the drone.

This completes this stage.

Stage 54 - Contains the USB data cable.

In the final stage, you will secure the camera and make some finishing touches before take-off.

Because the camera will be connected to the receiver, we recommend postponing fixing the bodywork to the chassis until after this stage.

To begin this stage’s assembly, remove the M5x16mm screw from the front right arm with the 3mm Allen key supplied, then unlock the front right arm.

Repeat Steps with the other three arms, so that the drone has all four arms folded down, this will enable you to fix the body onto the chassis.

Take the body and carefully fix it over the chassis, working from the back of the drone. Each of the four arm supports has a hole and a pin which correspond to tabs on the body. Make sure that all four corners of the body are aligned properly before you replace the arms, keeping the body in place.

Now put the four arms in their horizontal position, making sure that the interlocking system is working as it should. When you are sure that the body is correctly positioned on the chassis, replace the M5x16mm screws and secure them with the 3mm Allen key on all four arms.

On the front of the body, remove the protective backing from the double-sided tape applied in the previous stage. Apply another strip of double-sided tape as shown in the Step 8 photo.

If you find that any of the double-sided tape strips do not stick properly, carefully remove it with a craft knife and replace it.

Take the front panel of the body and attach it to the left and right halves. Apply gentle pressure with your fingers, make sure that the components fit together perfectly.

The photo of Step 14 shows where to insert the USB data cable into the back of the drone. The data cable connects to your PC via a USB port. See page 293 for details of setting up the PC Interface.

This completes this Stage of the assembly. Carefully store the USB date cable.

Final Stage 55 - Contains the video camera, a memory card and double-sided tape.

Cut two strips of double-sided tape, remove the backing and place them on the camera. Two strips are more stable than one square in the centre of the camera.

Fix the camera firmly in the front of the drone. As mentioned in the last stage, you can leave finishing the livery until you have completed the wiring of the camera.
The lens faces forward, and there should be enough free space at the back to insert and remove the memory card.

Take the wire from the camera and fix the black connector in the last remaining socket in the 8-channel receiver.
Before completing the body (following the instructions in Stage 54), push the camera wire into the slot. Then insert the MicroSD card into the slot in the back of the camera. The slot has a spring mechanism, so push the card in until it clicks. To remove the card, push it in slightly and it will be ejected.

This completes the camera installation, the camera is connected to an open channel on the receiver that is controlled with a 3 position switch. On the Tactic TTX810 radio control handset, this is Channel 8. See page 297 for full details of the camera settings.

Now fit the four rotor guards that you received throughout the collection.

If you wish to pair the radio control, do so before you affix the rotors. Turn on the radio control to send a signal to the drone. If the red light on the receiver blinks once, then stays on, the connection is live.
If the red light does not blink, take a screwdriver and insert the tip into the hole in the receiver under the word LINK. Press the small button inside. The LED on the receiver will turn on for a second, then go off again. If the pairing was successful, the LED on the receiver will flash once and then remain lit. If the drone and remote are still not paired, repeat the process.

Fix the front rotors onto the motors. Use the schematic diagram from Stage 30 to make sure that the rotors are in the correct orientation. The front right arm, with a counterclockwise (CCW) rotor, has a black nut, while the front left arm, with a clockwise (CW) rotor, has a silver nut.
Then fix the two rear rotors, again referring to the schematic diagram in Stage 30. The clockwise (CW) rotor on the rear right arm has a silver nut, while the counterclockwise (CCW) rotor on the rear left arm has a black nut.

LiPo battery pack - Please refer to the information provided on the use and care of the battery and refer back to the relevant magazines.
Also provided is a LiPo balancing charger and its charge leads. Do not use any other kind of charger as this could be very dangerous. Charging information is provided on pages 243-245 of the magazine and also in this manufacturer link http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=17946

Take the battery and fit it into the drone as shown. You should check the velcro strips regularly to make sure that they hold firmly, and clean any debris from them if necessary.

The battery connects to the ESC, as shown. For safety, the drone’s motors are not activated as soon as they are turned on. You need to ‘arm’ the motors with a command from the Transmiter. Full details of the arming procedure is on page 295 of the magazine.

The DIP switches on located the back of the Transmitter internally within the battery compartment. These must be switched to the ON position, except for 5 and 6, which must be OFF.

This completes the assembly of the Sky Rider Drone, all that now needs to be done is carefully follow the software and Sky Rider set-up information described on Pages 290-299.
