Very nice indeed and good bit of planking because even with primer this is the element that will stand out if not done correctly.

Yours looks tops.

I am "colkecting" this one at the moment rather than building but seeing the size its making me think if i will ever be able to manage such a large kit.

Trouble is if you see these kits and don't jump in at the start chances are you will hever see it again.

Hope the rest of your build goes well.
Happy Modelling

BUILDING: Hachette Spitfire Mk 1A, Constructo Mayflower
SUBSCRIPTION COMPLETE (Awaiting building): USS Constitution, Sovereign of the Seas, 1:200 Bismarck (Hachette)

Hi all, just received issues 80-83, the start of the control room so I thought I had better post the work done on the last 4 issues - the conning tower.

The first 2 pics are of the painted 88mm and 2cm guns. I will add some weathering but not until the final installation.

Pic 3 shows the port half of the tower drilled out to receive the navigation light and a piece of plastic tube cut in half fitted below the deck to act as a cable guide.

Pic 4 shows the light from the outside but not glued in place.

Pic 5 shows a smaller diameter bit of plastic tube above the deck to act as a cable duct and hide the wire.

Pic 6 is of the tower halves glued together and the under deck fitted.

Pics 7 & 8 show some of the etch brass fitted and the etch deck pieces. The instructions say to prime the tower before adding any brass but I prefer to glue the brass to the plastic and not to a painted surface where possible.

Pic 9 shows the etch deck modified to fit around the cable ducting.

Pic 10 shows the internal brass fitted.

Pic 11 shows the etch deck and the shaped 'wooden' panels ready for painting.

Pic 12 shows the finished cable access covered. The cables are still loose so the lights can be pulled out a couple of inches to make painting easier.

Well that's it for now

Graeme

Just a quick update to show the build has not been abandoned. I have now got up to issue 95 which contains the first of the engine room parts.

However, although it appears that all the component parts for the control room have been completed (in the magazine at least - I have not yet done anything with them) there has been no mention of test fitting any of the bulkhead walls, floor or rear wall into the hull, which seems crazy as the instructions have these parts painted and all valve handles etc. fitted. There are also no parts (as yet) for any ceiling fittings.

I have also looked on the German site which has all the instructions up to issue 131 (only 19 to go) and the same applies to the engine room. As I am installing lighting I have reluctantly decided to continue to hold off on any further work on the build until the German site at least has covered all the issues so I know if I am going to have to scratch build ceilings for the control room and engine room.
