She's looking great Adam, you've certainly done a great job so far and long may it continue. Cool Cool The art of fitting droppers and stealers does take a little time to master but with perseverance I'm sure you'll get there in the end. It doesn't matter how long your build takes just as long as you are enjoying the experience....Cool Cool .. Look forward to seeing your next update....

Adam

Its all coming on well.

Ups and downs with any build are to be expected but the end result proves so satisfying.

Hope the rest of the build goes well.
Happy Modelling

Very many thanks for the preceding comments. They are certainly appreciated and definitely helps to maintain an eye on the prize, so to speak, in completing this stage of the build.

I’ve continued with the second layer of planks over the past month or two. About 5 more rows to go. A long haul so far I must admit, but there is light at the end of the tunnel (and it’s not the oncoming train).

Now I need to figure out the best approach for laying the planks around the T-Junction that is the hull and stern post. I’ve planked from the keel down (or is it up? Been working on this upside down for too long). I think I need to progress inward continuing from the last of the 14 rows previously laid. There looks to be some serious twists and curves in a small area.

So, short and sweet for now.
Until next time - take care.
Adam

Hi Adam

Lovely planking work there mate - looks absolutely immaculate...

Don't worry about the planking round the stern post - just let the planks lay where they want to go, then just put shaped infill pieces in as required...that's what I did.

Regards
JohnP

Top work there Adam and yes, the stern area can be a little tricky to do but looking at your progress to date I think you'll get round that area without too many problems.... Looks fab...

Absolutely beautiful planking, but I can see a problem on the horizon. You have made such a good job on bottom of hull, are you really gonna want to cover it with paint?

Ahoy there.

There is quite a buzz in the dockyard at the moment and it gives me much pleasure to announce that THE SECOND PLANKING ON THE HULL IS COMPLETE. There is no way I thought it would take this long to complete, but perseverance appears to have paid off.

Almost all of the bow planks were tapered to be ending at half width (2.5mm). Some have pointed ends but these are hardly noticeable. The transition of the planking at the stern post gave me the most grief. To help achieve a flowing transition I decided to flare out the top of the stern post with wood putty. This helped immensely as the planks are bent and twisted within a small area. The hull has been lightly sanded using 400 grit then 800 grit sandpaper, so now it is silky smooth.

So, now it is time to crack on and commence construction of the gallery and transom. But before we do, to celebrate the completion of this milestone, the Captain has issued an order to the dockyard crew:

“Splice the Mainbrace”

Beautiful planking, as others have already said your patience really has pad off.

If the rest of this is done to this standard it will be a stunning show piece when you get done with it
