Derek An interesting and complex looking build. That certainly is a big model and it will be interesting to see how it all goes together. Looks like all of those oarts will lock together into a very strong model. How the rest if the build goes well. Happy Modelling

Hi All, Thanks to those who have looked in. Time for a small update. The instructions suggest that you glue the jig pieces (which also form the bow to stern internal braces)to the base board. These are later cut to free the frame from the board. My choice is to bracket the parts for two reasons. 1)Removing the glued parts from the base board will most likely ruin the board surface beyond repair. and 2) Removing the jig parts from the internal bracing parts should be easier without having to keep shifting what is a very heavy board at about 5ft long. So, that said for the main part I`ve used furniture making blocks and then some metal right angled brackets. (The furniture blocks do allow for a small amount of adjustment). The first two pictures show the blocks in use. I`ve used dome head screws with washers underneath to allow for fine adjustment of the blocks. Next picture shows all the blocks in place with the parts removed for clarity. Rib nine is the rib that everything seems to revolve around measurement wise, so being able to move the jig pieces made it easier to square rib nine to the jig as shown in the next pic. The next picture shows ribs 9 and 12 with their brackets installed. I also made a dry fit of rib 14 nearest the stern and added some small brackets to fix the stern ends of the jig in place. When everything was set and I was happy all was square, I added and glued ribs 7,8,10,11,13 and 14. In the next update I have to extend the forward keel along the centre line and add more ribs. Until then, Happy Modelling Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Derek Glad to see you up and running with your build. Looks quite complex at these early stages but time spent at this point will ensure a good result. Happy Modelling

Coming along nicely del that hull framing looks much more complex than mine, and mine was probably twice the size. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Hi All, Thanks to all above for looking in. The frame as stated by KP is complex and gets very much more so as this build progresses. The forward keel will extend the length by another 12inches to the full 48 inch length. The rear centre keel has to be fitted etc, etc. Attached below is a picture I took earlier, before assembling the jig. It was because of how the initial lay up of the parts went, that I spent a lot of time setting up the basics of this build. I don`t want it going in permanent circles do I. Till the next update, Happy Building. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

That certainly is a very complex looking frame There is something about these old paddle steamers that appeal to me so will enjoy watching this develop

Hi All, Many thanks to all who visited after the last update and those for comments left. Time for the next small update: Extending the centre keel to it`s forward most extent. So, this part is made a bit more complex by the fact that the frame work is made upside down. You have to brace the centre keel to keep it straight along it`s length and vertically straight. The ribs are fitted from underneath the centre keel so will have to be fitted first to the keel before the keel is fitted to the rest of the hull frame. A slow setting glue will be in order here to make sure everything ends up straight. Just in case that doesn`t make sense the following pictures may help. There is nothing glued as yet in this update. First the centre keel has to be braced to the centre line. In the second pic you can see all the forward ribs, these all have feet on them (one arrowed) to be removed at a later date. Next you can see the six brackets used to stabalise the forward keel. Now checking the keel is vertical. Next job is to work on getting the forward ribs square and at the right height to the keel, then stick it all together. So until then "Happy Building" Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

If I ever build another stern wheeler ( and I love them so much that's not an impossibility ) it will be scratch built, that is far too complex for me. Ken's the name modeling's the game.
