I have a few and they mostly involve women  but i need one of the clamp variety, i noticed Jack Sparrow had a suction one which is the type i was looking for but after reading a review on amazon about the rolson suction vice i decided to ask you lads if you have any recommendations for such a vice, all suggestions will be gratefully recieved, though none about your unsavoury habits . thanks wallace

Hi Wallace Rather than go for a light weight suction vice which needs a smooth surface for suction, I decided to go for a heavy drill press vice with shaped faces that will grip flat materials and also take horizontal and vertical rods. I then use it in conjunction with my dremel drill in a vertical drilling stand. Not sure where I got it but the price I paid was about the same as this link: Fathfull drill press viceHope that helps Mike T

Thanks for that Mike, but it looks a bit too big for my needs as i do my build in the kitchen, no shed or spare room as i live in a flat and need something i can pack away when not using.

I have a Rolson vice, and of course, I had had it for a good while before I eventually put it to use and discovered that the suction is totally naff...and that it was a cheaper version of a similar suction vice...I don't really want to bin it, has anyone any ideas as to how the vice can be adapted for table use...thanks shipmates... Thats the same one i was avoiding after reading review on amazon, the exact words were " i would rather eat dog crap than buy a rolson vice"

This is the one I bought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PR...amp;hash=item19bc1a67c8 provided you keep the work surface clean & wipe the rubber suction base with a damp cloth it stays put.The jaws come with a vertical & horizontal groove cast in to hold round bar tube etc firmly & comes with detachable rubber jaw protectors. As an example of how good the suction is on this vice,my work desk has a 4'x2'x6mm toughened glass top & just out of interest I made sure the top was clean & the vice base damp & attached the vice.....then I lifted the glass top using the vice!!Wish I hadn't now as I think I might have done myself a mischief  Rob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

the vice i bought was from 'Games Workshop'. Its about as usfull as 'dog crap' as well. DONT go down the suction method road. Get one with a clamp on it so it can be securly attatched to the table. i dont know what weapons will be used in ww3 but ww4 will be sticks and stones.

As regards vices if you look at my diary build you will see the yellow vice I got from Argos its a stanley and worth every penny £16 if i remember it works at any angle brilliant bit of kit
