A statue of railway engineer Sir Nigel Gresley is due to be unveiled at King's Cross station today 75 years after his death - with the notable absence of a duck to keep him company.
Sir Nigel Gresley is the famous transportation engineer who designed the Mallard, which set the record for the fastest locomotive in the world at 126mph in 1938, and the Flying Scotsman.
A mallard Duck was included in the original design because he liked breeding water fowl, and locomotives including Mallard were named after birds. However, the Gresley Society Trust changed the design because two of his grandsons thought it was "demeaning".
