Hi all, There has been a lot of discussion on this one. I thought I might paint the hull grey as it in the dockyard. Then I considered the copper tile idea but was concerned about the cost of copper. Then I thought I really want to show off my wood craft skills so I've had a practice with wood stain. Have a look at the piccies, your comments would be appreciated. If you can't see the writing on the pic it says left side treated with sanding sealer after application.

looks good to me. i am going to see what the copper options and prices are before i decide “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

I'm going to have a crack at stain first, with veneering as a second option if I don't like the stain. I just can't see copper paint looking any good on a model of this quality. Jimmy L.
current builds : Lancaster 1/32 (Hachette) Revell USS Kearsarge Titanic Lifeboat
I started off with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I have a hard time imagining copper paint is any good as well. i dont know what weapons will be used in ww3 but ww4 will be sticks and stones.

The only way i think a copper paint would workis as a spray ...first you would have to seal the wood ... then a couple of coats of primer then a couple of coats of copper spray and then finish with a clear coat to protect the finish...but you would not get the rivet effect....hand painting it is a big no no....it would be streaky as hell....but for the cost of the sprays, sealer and not to mention the shed loads of masking tape....i'd hold back and see how cheap we can get the copper plate for....also buying flat copper sheets and using a pin wheel (that gives the effect of rivets)....may well be a cheaper option...imho...hope this helps.... .John...

Hi all As a sergestion i was thinking of using COPPER LEAf for the hull, it the same as gold leaf as is made of real copper so that over time it will weather into the verdigrea, you can also get full kits on the net for only £20 with the fixer and sealer, and this method will not add any extra wait to the finished build. I welcome any comments as this is my first build and any comments would be a godsent . ( appologise for spelling im better at building than academics ) Builds in progress: HMS Victory.HMS Surprise. Completed builds: Revell London Bus 1/24. Builds to do:Sovereign of the seas, Hms Albion.
