Hi Derek.
coming along nicely, Like the keel jig around the bow section, it looks as if the bow section keel bits would be easy to snap off if not careful.

Hi All,BigGrin

Thanks to all who looked in and those who left comments. Cool

Have been assessing the next part of this build, which is fitting the sheers from bow to stern. These parts give the wheeler it's shape and fix the forward ribs in place along with connecting all the ribs fitted earlier.

Now here's the rub. Not enough clamps. Blushing

Placed an order on good ol' eBay and should be with me in a couple of days.

So until then,

Happy Building.

Regards

Hi All, BigGrin

Eight quick clamps arrived today.

Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

So, to planning the next stage:

To Do

Fit and glue the forward centre keel with six ribs keeping everything square while it sets.

I`ve already fixed brackets to set the forward keel in place and will be using the pieces called shears to hold the ribs in their correct position.

The first picture shows the four shears laid on the build board close to their relevant positions.

The next picture shows the forward shears held in place to check it all fits together Ok. (No glue at this stage)

The last picture is just to show the fit of the rear shears. These will need very minor adjustment in length after the front shears are set in place.

Now happy with the way this section all fits together and with a total of twelve quick clamps in hand it`s time to get glueing. A job for tomorrow, dinner and work beckon.Crying

Regards

Thanks to all above for your kind comments.

Since the last update I`ve managed to fit the shears in place on both sides and when set, started working on the fitting of the chines.

Due to the length of the chines three pieces of wood make two chines. one piece cut in half and then each half length spliced to a full length.

To accommodate the curve required on the stern end of the chines, small cuts at 1/4inch spaces were made for the last six inches of the chine. This met with limited success as the wood is loose grained and even with the saw cuts did begin to splinter slightly. I`ve glued and clamped until set these areas and all now seems ok.

The bow end of the chines is easier to fit. Only issue here was how to clamp things while they set. Trying to get clamps to hold pieces of wood that all lay at different angles was a little testing, so an alternative method was used. Yep, well positioned cable ties did the job.

So just a couple of pics to show what`s been done.

First: Stern end showing sheers and chines fitted.

Second: First bow end of the chines clamped whilst glue sets.

Next to be done:

Fit second chine at bow end.
Fit main keel
Make a start on the external plating. All external plating is done with the frame still in the jig.
